From the Daily News:
The city was ordered Thursday to pay the $13,000 in legal bills Public Advocate Bill de Blasio racked up waging a Freedom of Information Law battle against Mayor Bloomberg.
De Blasio sued Bloomberg in the summer of 2012 after the administration refused to release data on fines imposed against small-business owners over the last 10 years by the Health, Consumer Affairs, Transportation, Sanitation, Buildings and Finance Departments.
City attorneys turned over much of the information last summer. De Blasio’s staff has been studying the data and expects to release a report soon.
Last summer, in papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, de Blasio said revenue from fines went from $400 million to $800 million from 2002 to 2011. He argued in tough economic times, the mayor has been balancing the city budget on the backs of small-business owners.
