Dog meat sold in Chinatown?

From CBS Minnesota:

The owner of Minnesota’s largest dog breeding operation still sold hundreds of puppies illegally, despite being convicted of animal cruelty. That’s what the I-TEAM just found and when WCCO’s James Schugel kept digging, things got more disturbing.

“The Canine Culture Center. Do you know anything about it,” asked I-TEAM’s undercover team.

“No,” said the woman at a New York City meat market.

The I-TEAM went undercover in New York City to see the Canine Culture Center, but found a meat market at the same address.

And as the I-TEAM found, a worker there says he only sells dogs to eat.

UPDATE 11/4: The NY Post is reporting that the reporter and the meat market employee misunderstood each other saying "duck" and "dog" and that the shady shipper meant to send the dogs to the home address of a pet store owner. Which brings up another question: This address clearly is not the address of a home. So were dogs actually sent there and what happened to them?

Not to surprising.
On Main st Flushing a man was selling what looked like small of rat or hamster like carcasses on these kabob sticks.
I couldn't tell because the heads and tails were missing.

Speaking of Main street Rolex's are now over $40 and LIRR ticket prices are pure robbery.

What no kitty to go with that dog? Hide your pets folks! Ratty BBQ!

Don't walk your dog in Chinatown or Flushing.

You know every time I hear a story like this I remember a fellow that served in Korea during the ... ah ... 'police action' during the 50s.

Now the Koreans were in a bad way, and were polite to the Americans because they needed their help (and welcomed their dollars) but there was a sense of underlying disdain by many of them.

So my friend asked them about it.

It seems they were completely appalled that Americans used hankies to blow their nose, then put their snots in their pocket.

Any civilized person knows that the only place for snots was on the ground - one certainly does not walk about with that gunk in one's pocket.

Why am I not surprised?

Horrified, yes. But not surprised.

Another reason to boycott pet stores and only adopt from shelters.

""boycott pet stores and only adopt from shelters""

That don't help you also. Places like North Shore Animal shelter (and others) have these big animal carrier rigs.
They with actually drive 1500+ miles to these midwest shelters and pick up rescue dogs.
A good 1/2 of these dogs ARE from puppy mills.
Yes they have the dogs work with "behavior experts" but it doesn't last.
Its safe to say 50% chance you are getting a problem mill dog that will never stop barking, biting or crapping on your floor no matter how much training.

PS: I think anybody who wants a dog (other then for hunting) needs a psychiatrist.
They are more maintenance and "grounding" then children --only noisier.
Forget about going anyplace unplanned if you own a dog.
I can only guess some people need problems or an ankle shackle to be happy. I sure will never understand it

Tastes just like chicken!

Let's eat THEM instead!

HORRIFIC! THIS is the fault of our representatives actually. They ALLOW the Asians to do whatever they want - no signs in English means they are doing illegal things IN THE Fkg stores! come on - you don't have to be a brain surgeon.

Looking forward to PETA's reaction!

scum bags

Right, because there are no illegal things going on in English speaking stores.

Anonymous said...

No it just makes it more likely. I mean if the average cop doesn't know what type of business it is, it's not likely to be scrutinized.

You are what you eat!

"Tastes just like chicken!"

No. That's cats.

India with its one billion people treats cows as sacred and do not kill them. Others like China treat dogs as food.
What is repulsive to some is acceptable to others. The bottom line is, anyone who is repulsed by the concept of killing an animal for food should turn vegetarian, like Mark Twain, who once remarked: "I can't stomach the concept of eating cadavers."

Queens Crapper said...

Yes, that's nice. We can save the vegetarian argument for another day. The point here is that this meat is illegal to sell in the USA.

Okay. This is really irresponsible reporting. How do you know that someone didn't use the address as a ghost address where that person can pick up the shipment and send it to the pet stores? Yeah. The reporter called the meat market and a "person" answered the phone saying they just sell dogs to eat after a white lady came by asking about a dog company. Dummies!! That was answered sarcastically. They're sick of Whites coming in saying that the meat they sell and being served in restaurants are dog and cat meat!! How would you like someone insisting you did something that you didn't do? I would joke with my non Asian acquaintances that the meat they eat at Chinese restaurants are not what they think and they always respond "I knew it!" So ignorant. Chicken/port/beef is cheap and plentiful. Getting dog and cat meat is difficult to obtain and not of a high demand. The restaurant/store would lose money carrying that item. The bottom line is to make money and having exotic meat not in high demand is not going to help accomplish that. I love reading Queens Crap to just reaffirm how stupid and racist some people are.

Anonymous said...

Yes of course! When asked about a puppy store on your premises, volunteer instead that the store sells puppy meat. That's a joke that makes perfect sense. Plus, when they get caught, they can say they were just joking and scream racism! Ah, the perfect plan!

Hey you want to hear something funny? Gothamist, which banned me from commenting on their website because they can't handle debate or criticism, stole this post from me, failed to give credit to the one who first blogged it, and now is acting like they discovered it. Slay classy, John DelSignore!

"How do you know that someone didn't use the address as a ghost address where that person can pick up the shipment and send it to the pet stores?"

Why would they send it to an address where there's a meat market and a law office as a ghost address? These are both active businesses.

Anonymous said...

To make their post seem "fresh" Gothamist contacted the Dept. of Agriculture who said they found no dog meat upon inspection. Well if the supplier was shut down, then naturally, they wouldn't find dog meat at the store. Duh.

Is it possible that someone working in that building could have a side business and wanted the deliveries sent to that location? Do people really believe that the workers in that store would tell a person they don't know on the phone or in person that they sell dog meat for eating. I don't think so. Everyone knows it's illegal here. I'm pretty sure there is something crooked going on to have puppies sent to that location but I highly doubt it's to sell for food.

---------
Joe here --I'm currently in Southold.
I have chickens, goats 2 pigs they are my pets and well taken care of.

One one the "puppy" stores listed (on the hit list)" was being raided on my drive out.
I personally talked to 2 of the local PO's myself. They were just as PISSED but couldn't do anything as long as the animals had basic food and water.
-- And it gets worse---
Under NYS law shops can claim they are "rescuing" these animals and do not have to disclose any of the historys to buyers.
I did get to copy a screen from one of the cars

It says:
Article 35-D of New York State General Business Law prohibits any local municipalitie from enacting any legislation regulating pet dealers.
Because of this state preemption these motherF_ckers can basically run amuck and do as the please.
This law is 120 years old and was intended for livestock feed animals. (not pets)and needs to be changed !

Added post: http://www.agriculture.ny.gov/AI/AILaws/Art-35D-Sale%20of-Dogs-and-Cats.pdf

To add after reading through all this BS states animals "themselves" including pets have no rights in New York State and nobody can challenge that legislation : See the fine print c, d and e (at the end) “Preemption of local laws.
Sec:753-e
It basically pre-empts all the bullshit above it.

Well folks, I updated the story this morning to include a followup by the NY Post and added a question mark to the title because I have no idea what the real story is now. I don't think the words "duck" and "dog" sound alike, but who knows. It's probably best to have someone who speaks English at your place of business answering the phone unless you don't mind be subjected to raids. Would love to know what really happened to the puppies and I hope it wasn't something bad.

Sorry to say no doubt the dogs and puppies ended up on dinner plate. This along with poached turtles and geese from many parks.
