Ridgewood bus driver finds abandoned toddler

NEW YORK (CBS 2) — A quick thinking bus driver jumped into action after making an alarming discovery while on the job.

As William Allan started his shift around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning along Putnam Avenue in Ridgewood, Queens, he spotted a 2-year-old boy, wandering on the sidewalk.

“I noticed out of the corner of my eye there’s a small child standing here, unclothed and shivering. Immediately I stopped the bus and I came around…he immediately saw me and put his arms up in the air and started crying,” Allan told CBS 2′s Cindy Hsu. “I immediately picked the child up and called 911.”

Allan took the little boy, who was dressed only in his underwear, into his warm bus and waited for police.

When police arrived, they started searching for the boy’s family. Just a few doors down, authorities found an open apartment door where the child’s 1-year-old brother was asleep in a crib with no adults home.

The next door neighbor said just a few months ago, he found the two boys alone on their front stoop.

Unbelievable that this could happen!

Thank God the Bus driver saw the kid and reacted - probably saved the toddler from harms way.

The story should not end here - where are the parents, who are they and where were they to allow something unthinkable like this to occur.

The bus driver should be praised for not ignoring that child. He probably saved that kid's life.

Kudos to him because there might be human traffickers or even thugs that will use him/her as a toy.

Yet, the bus driver is also brave because god knows would any monster purposely use the kid as a bait to mug anyone who cares enough to stop for the child. Thus, the driver would've been 'dead' if this was the case. That's the reason why people in the city (bad areas) tend to ignore odd events like this. Wonder if the victim is a teenager in underwear, will s/he get the same treatment. I bet 50% will ignore the teenager thinking he is a psycho..when in fact it's neglect.

Someone needs to stop watching the Death Wish series everyday.

where are the parents? they don't deserve children. I hope the kids are taken out of that home but then who knows what kind of foster care they will wind up in.

Tell me this is a black American crack head ho mother.

Wasn't there a recent leaked memo that MTA employees had no obligation in any situation to act as Good Samaritans, and therefore should not be one and just let a member of public or first responder be the Good Samaritan.

Nope.

MTA can suck my d--k. It's a big bureacracy that doesn't know how to run anything. And it's the bureacracy that hinders any new and efficient transportation development. Look at countries like Japan or continent like Europe.. they have fast, efficient transportation. Solve this mta problem and efficient transportation problem and you will see a decline in automobile usage. Anyways, I don't know what the f--k I just said because I'm drunk. I just think MTA organization is run by retards and too much politics. How the f-k can you miscalculated the budget with a shortage or 4 million or 400 million.

The bus driver is a hero. Thank goodness he found the toddler.

Poor baby - if these dirtbags leave their babies alone - they also are most probably physically abusive to them.

Now an investigation into these dirtbag parents can commence. The bus driver not only saved the child's life - but, also saved the child from future harm. People will be watching them very closely from now on I'm sure.

I hope the best for the little ones.

As a retired NYC public school teacher I'm surprised they're not blaming me for this too.

Anon No. 10 --

I think you have some anger management issues to wotrk out. This post was about a bus operator saving a kid's life. what was your point?

To Anon No. 7:

I don't think so. According to the October 22nd issue of the Post, the name of the kid's family is Baginsky.
