Realtor rented out house he didn't own

From 1010WINS:

Not only did Ozell Neely collect $2,200 a month in rent on a house prosecutors contend he didn't own, but they say he also tried to evict a tenant when the woman stopped paying in a dispute over whether promised repairs had been made.

Neely's attorney argues that his client acted like a landlord and sought the eviction because he is the rightful owner, having bought the property in a foreclosure proceeding.

Neely, the 47-year-old operator of Welcome Home Realty in Queens, was arrested Tuesday on burglary, grand larceny and other charges after prosecutors say he rented out the abandoned home in Baldwin, on Long Island, that he didn't own. He faces a maximum of seven years in prison if convicted.

This is nothing new. A deadbeat tenant of a friend not only rented out to a subtenent, but collected rent while not remitting any of it to the landlord. After stiffing every vendor from the oil man down the house was blacklisted and the new people had problems getting basic deliveries.

Tell me he's Jamaican or from Guyana. Tell me he's an illegal immigrant.

who else would have the nerve to break open a house boarded up and locked?

He is banking on the I'm an illegal alien sympathy & I'm an illegal alien so the laws don't apply to me.

how did the person live there with no running water? that's what I want to know.

Hes not an illegal alien. Hes from the U.S. The house was his that he brought out of foreclosure.

When you buy a house out of foreclosure, you receive title to it, no different from any other real estate purchase. He is a thief and a liar.

It's really easy for people to judge...half of u people have no clue the media always makes it seem more than it really is ...

You think this is a media exaggeration? Okay, I told you what happened to my landlord friend.

Now for what happened to a tenant in a similar situation. A woman rented in a house owned by an illegal alien. Illegal alien goes home for a funeral, cannot reenter the country.

Illegal alien's family eventually let house go into foreclosure. American born tenant (up to date on rent too) is counting the days till the bank throws her into the street.

Lots of people collect rent without truly owning the property.
