Steinway Mansion still for sale, not at discount
The Steinway Mansion still hasn't been sold yet. It's been on the market for quite awhile. That, plus the downward spiral in the economy would make you think the price would go down. But instead it's gone up by a lot. The asking price 2 years ago was $4M, now it's $5M!

Owner Mike Halberian has been trying to "off load" his "white elephant"
for years and years, at great profit, with no "takers" yet.
The city might be taxing the hell out of him but didn't he install a million dollar spa in his basement?
H-m-m-m-m !!!
Let's break out the "crying towel"!
How about a partial (or full) donation for a tax write off to a well qualified deserving group who'll maintain the property in good order?
We didn't think so!
Knock the eyesore down. COndo Condo Condo.
Can't. It's landmarked.
Thats a shame, thats why no ones buying it. It need too much work. Its better off as a tear down.
I'll give him $1.
Who wants to live near a water pollution plant on "Bowery" Bay?
The asking price is too high.
That's THE ONLY REASON nobody's bought it yet.
Halberian's a huckster!
It's got nothing to do with its being a landmark...you jerk-off!
I don't think the owner really wants to sell it off so quickly.
I think he's blackmailing the preservation community into helping him find a buyer for that ridiculous price he's asking for the mansion!
If he cares so much about his treasured landmark...he'd offer a reasonable discount to any serious purchaser.
But this savvy former restaurateur wants to have his cake and eat it too!
have you ever went pass this so call mansion, the area sucks! it's dirty and a commerical area. let's not forget the dumps, the sewage plant and rikers bridge not too far off. lmao millions for that, keep it ass hole no one will buy it. wait maybe the bloomturd can build another high school...
They should tear down the neighborhood around it instead, and restore it to its late 19th century condition!
This house is absolutely incredible!! I ride my bike in that area every summer just to get a fix on the history it exudes. Once, I was invited inside for a private tour. PLEASE - SOMEONE TAKE CARE OF PRESERVING THIS MARVEL OF TIME RIGHT HERE IN ASTORIA!!!
the price has gone down! anyone want to finance my mortgage, including taxes!!?!
It's up for 2.5 mil now (if it's the same place). I agree... I live a few blocks away and I could never live on the street this mansion is on. Way too many warehouses, power and waste plants. We should tear down all of those eyesores, and bring the whole neighborhood back to the 1850s. No one does work like that anymore - the small beautiful details in everything from ceilings, to light fixtures, to bathroom hardware. Sigh. I WISH I could buy it!
