An empty feeling at the corner

Well it's your typical demo site, complete with blue construction fence. How quaint. This one's at 72-19 Grand Avenue in Maspeth. Let's take a peek.
Nice trench you got there. Bet you got an SWO for improper excavation, right?
Wow, there's that and then some. Allow me to list:

PLANS INADEQUATE,SHEERCUT EXCAV,SOIL IMPROPERLY SUPPORTED,FENCE GATE HINGED TO SWING OVER SIDEWALK, FAILURE TO SAFEGUARD PUBLIC & PROPERTY DURING EXCAVATION @ SITE SIDEWALK ALONG GRAND AVE WAS UNDERMINED.

And previously:
7/24/07: UPON INSPECTION EXCAVATION HAS BEEN COMMENCED NO 48HR NOTICE WAS GIVEN TO THE DOB AS PER RULE 52.SEP/EXCAVATION UNIT
5/29/07: STOP WORK ORDER VIOLATION SERVED FOR NON-COMPLIANT AFTER HOURS WORK
Comments: OPEN, ACTIVE DEMO SITE. EXCAVATING FOUNDATION, TRUCKING DEBRIS. NO VARIANCE ISSUED BY DOB

In light of this, the sign on the right is really funny:

Here's a interesting piece of trivia. The import store seen in the top photograph to the left of the demo site is owned by a Pinky cousin. As is the hair salon on the other side of the import store. Stop in and ask for Linda. Ask her how the family is.
