Amazon vs. New York State

From Gothamist:

Last week Governor Paterson signed off on a new tax law requiring out-of-state retailers to collect sales tax from consumers in New York State. Like other states, New York requires residents to pay tax on out-of-state purchases for which sales tax wasn’t collected. The big argument is over who’s responsible for collecting; the new law puts that onus vendors like Amazon, which is now fighting the bill in State Supreme Court.

As an owner of a small business I'm for the tax. It levels the playing field a bit. Its about time a law gets passed that helps us struggling businesses, I wish they would come more often.

cntrysigns... I see your point. But as one of the most overtaxed people in the country (as all Crappy's readers are) I just want a break somewhere.

The break will come when this city is full of crappy big box stores with crappy products and no one knows what good customer service is.

And you're forgetting that by law you were still responsible for paying the taxes. But it looks like you don't follow the law. I guess its good you posted as anonymous.
