Woodside squeeze-in

Down this little alley in Woodside is a giant PoS. What's cute is that the permits and complaints for this one property are under different street names. (Burroughs Place was the former name of 66th Street, but for some reason remains in DOB's system.)

Here are 41-36 Burroughs Place and 41-34 66th Street along with the subdivided 41-38 66th Street.

There was a 2-family house here. Now it looks like there will be at least 8 units.

And God knows what is going on next door...

Incidentally, the Burroughs family was prominent in the area in the 18th and 19th centuries. We're sure they'd lobby to have their name completely removed from this street if they were alive to see the present day landscape, especially the yet-to-be-used rusty balconies that hangeth off of this piece of Queens Crap.

This is yet another example of a greedy builder's "tar paper shack" mentality to squeeze in more immigrants and rent gouge them in the process!

Hey, why don't you do one on the 17th century Borroughs family cemetery, half built on about 15 years ago on Alsteine in Elmhurst, and the other an empty lot next to the railroad tracks? On the built upon portion the city kept on selling the lot for a non-refundable deposit with full knowledge that bodies were underground and title was unclear.

When mentioned to our illustrious borough historian, (remember him the cemetery expert) he refused to do anything about the remaining portion.

Of course, image is everything. If it’s a large area that no one can build on, then go ahead a make lot of noise. Maintain your image of a fighter if it’s an easy one. A lot that can quietly be built? Don't make waves.

A classic example of Queens preservation leadership.

He did not think there are descendants of the Borroughs still around to make a stink. Big surprise. Big mistake. This writer is one of them.

This website is akin to glancing into a lunatic asylum. Everyone is crazy, yet there's a sense of solidarity in the fact that everyone is spouting the same nonsense.

This posting is typical. Besides the obligatory anti-immigrant sentiment, every single new building is described as "enormous" and "gigantic", even though the majority are only two or three floors.

No matter that Woodside is already one of the densest neighborhoods in the United States and that much bigger buildings would be entirely appropriate and contextual. No matter that Woodside already has enormous towers like Big Six, as well as tons of 6-8 floor mid-rises. Queenscrap prefers to ignore all of this and pretend this is Mayberry.

The photo clearly shows that the new building is actually smaller than its much older neighbor to the left. It doesn't matter to the Queenscrap crowd, everything is still too big. Even a one floor double-wide trailer, or an Indian teepee would be described as "huge" and "out of scale". Who cares that 1.2 million newcomers will come to the city in the next 20 years? The racists and NIMBYs on this board would prefer to put their head in the sand and complain.

The good thing is that Queenscrap, Tony Avella, and the other bigots/anti-everythings are a dying breed. Thankfully the newcomers to Queens are taking the reins to power, and will (hopefully) upzone all the areas that have been idiotically downzoned, especially near transit lines and existing density.

Nice way to start off and make friends, Mr. "I just wanted to flame Queens Crap so I signed up for this ID today."

The posting has no anti-immigrant
sentiment whatsoever and if you're referring to Verdi's comment, he was sympathizing with immigrants being warehoused and getting ripped off, not being a bigot. As for it "only being 3 or 4 floors," there's such a thing called "contextual zoning" and an 8-unit building doesn't belong next to a one-family house.

The Big Six is along the widest street in the county, not in a side alley as this one is. There are different levels of zoning within neighborhoods. No one here is living in Fantasyland except apparently the genius sitting in the mayor's office and you, Crawford.

I love it. This is obviously someone who never studied history. The city was rezoned in 1961 to allow for a population swell up to 16 million people by the year 2000 and we have about half that! Maybe this bright light can explain why we are having infrastructure problems with the "paltry" 8 million people that we actually do have and why the densest neighborhoods in the borough suffered a major blackout last summer. As far as being racist NIMBYs, maybe he can also explain why Laurelton, Rosedale, Corona and other non-white areas are crying out for downzoning. Queens Crap is the only one who seems to be calling attention to the problems caused by politicians who accept legal bribes from developers, the department of city planning coming up with wacky urban planning decisions and the department of buildings allowing for developers and landlords to get away with murder.

The good thing is that Queenscrap, Tony Avella, and the other bigots/anti-everythings are a dying breed. A dying breed? HA! We've only just begun. Finally, the people who live here and are sick at what they see around them have a voice. One that can't be bought or otherwise silenced. It's a beautiful thing! I love Queens Crap!

What areas near mass transit have been downzoned? Is this guy in La La Land?

I think Crawford works for the mayor's office.

Those lacking the skill to debate actual issues usually start off with name calling and accusations of racism, sexism, homophobia, NIMBYism....

I guess in Crawford's world breaking building codes, harming the neighbor's property, etc. are not as egregious as bloggers complaining about the size of the building.

Between "Crawford's" spewings and those coming from "Crawford Texas" ......these dellusionists think they've got the world by the short hairs!

The tide has risen and YOU guys are the ones who are about to drown in your own spit!

Some folks just love the smell of their own "wind"!

Hey Crawford, this may be a lunatic asylum but it is a RIVETING lunatic asylum and you can't get enough of it. Welcome to the nut house.
