Today is not about every president

. . . please note it clearly states that the third Monday in February is Washington's Birthday. Not a "Presidents/Presidents'/President's" Day as commercial interests and ignorant boobs have recently called it. [They can't even get the existence and placement of the apostrophe in their misnomer correct!]

So Publisher/Editor Tony Barsamian of the Queens Gazette, you have contributed to the denigration of the Father of Our Country, the Great Washington, for which this Monday's holiday is dedicated. You are grievously mistaken that we are to commemorate every Tom, Dick, and Harry President that has come down the pike.

Meng mugged

Queens Congresswoman Grace Meng was attacked Tuesday night in Washington D.C., her office announced today.

Ms. Meng was hit over her head and robbed of her Gucci handbag, but did not suffer serious injures, according to the account; she was left with a bruise on her chin and underwent a CAT scan at George Washington University Hospital.

In a statement, Ms. Meng said she would resume “normal activities” today despite the scare.

Washington, D.C. shooter from Flushing

The suspect in Monday’s U.S. Navy Yard massacre was arrested in Seattle in 2004 after shooting out the tires of a car during an “anger-fueled blackout,” according to Seattle police.

Aaron Alexis, his father told Seattle police at the time, allegedly suffered from anger-management problems related to post-traumatic stress disorder. His father told Seattle police that Alexis had assisted in the recovery efforts at Ground Zero on Sept. 11, 2001.

A Queens native is connected to the shooting at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday that left more than a dozen people dead, federal authorities said.

The FBI identified Aaron Alexis, 34, formally of Flushing, as a gunman in the shooting, which began at about 8:20 a.m. at the Navy House in Washington D.C., officials said.

At least 13 people are confirmed dead, including Alexis, who authorities said died this afternoon.

Alexis fired on workers in the cafeteria and hallways before he was subdued, according to reports. Alexis worked for the Navy as an aviation electrician, reports said. According to the FBI, he most recently lived in Fort Worth, Texas.

Where would Meng raise the kids?

While Baby Boomers were focused on having careers and kids at the same time, subsequent generations have been putting more emphasis on child-rearing. And traditionally, Asians have always put their families first. Considering this, one has to wonder why Grace Meng would want to run for an office that would cause her to spend so much time away from her family, which includes a young child and a new baby.

Perhaps, like Joe Crowley, she'll just move the whole clan to Washington and raise them there. After all, the neighborhoods and schools are better in tony DC suburbs than anyplace in NY-6!

The idiots back in Queens won't care, they'll keep sending her back term after term so long as she comes back once in awhile for photo ops.

Goldsmith resigned after getting arrested

The blizzard didn't bury him -- roughing up his wife did.

Former Deputy Mayor Stephen Goldsmith -- who drew sharp criticism for bungling the Christmas storm that shut down the city -- actually resigned in disgrace after his wife, fearing for her life, had him arrested during an argument turned violent, The Post has learned.

Just days before he suddenly stepped down as Mayor Bloomberg's chief of operations, Goldsmith was arrested at his Georgetown home after his wife, Margaret, told cops he smashed a phone and grabbed her as she desperately tried to call cops, a Washington, DC, police report reveals.

He lives in DC but was deputy mayor of NY? How did he pull this off?

Weiner in meltdown mode

He won't call the cops on his supposed hacker -- but Anthony Weiner's office called police on a reporter yesterday.

CBS/Channel 2 said its reporter Marcia Kramer went to his Washington office hoping for an interview. It said she was ignored until press secretary David Arnold finally showed up.

Then, the station said, Kramer told Arnold, "All I want is for him [Weiner] to say something to his constituents, the people who have to vote for him."

Arnold replied, "I don't think you can say he hasn't said anything to his constituents. He spoke for nine hours yesterday."

Kramer answered, "But not to anyone in New York."

After she left the office, the station said, his staffers called Capitol Police.

The officers found Kramer and asked her for identification.

One cop told her she could be arrested if she went into Weiner's office and didn't leave if told to.

"If you go to an office and are asked to leave, you can be placed under arrest," Officer Michael Miller said, according to the station.

Kramer noted that she hadn't refused to leave.

Bloomberg introduces city to Ben Dover

After weeks of issuing dire warnings that large-scale layoffs are coming, Mayor Bloomberg declared yesterday that when the numbers are finally released next week they'll be "very painful."

He offered no specifics, but indicated there's not much hope of a reprieve once his $65.6 billion executive budget for fiscal 2012 is made public May 5.

The mayor laid the blame on Albany and Washington, which he asserted had left the city with about $3 billion less in aid than it needs and was counting on.

He suggested that demonstrators planning a massive rally on Wall Street May 12 to protest his budgets cuts would be better suited directing their anger at the state and federal governments.

"New York City has to balance its budget by law," he said. "We will go ahead and do that, you can rest assured. And it will be very painful because we have a lot less money, which means a lot fewer people."

Hizzoner added, "What we have to do is decide will it be fewer cops, fewer firefighters, fewer teachers, fewer this, fewer that."

How about fewer tax breaks for developers? Why are people up in arms about GE not paying taxes, but seemingly have no problem with Forest City Ratner or the Related Company getting free land and sweetheart tax deals like this one?

What, me pay?

Rep. Anthony Weiner has a little bit of 'splaining to do.

The self-appointed scourge of diplomatic scofflaws in Manhattan, Weiner racked up more than $2,000 in parking tickets around Capitol Hill.

From 2007 to March of this year, Weiner's ticket total was $2,180 for violations near the Capitol and at Reagan Washington National Airport, Roll Call, the Capitol Hill newspaper, reported Tuesday.

A Weiner spokesman said all of the fines have been paid since the paper first contacted the office.

"He is pleased to have helped decrease the D.C. budget deficit," Weiner spokesman Dave Arnold quipped to the paper.

Aides to the Queens Democrat claim that part of the problem arose because D.C. officials sent notices of the fines to a bad address.
