Queens elected officials are expressing outrage after swastikas were discovered in Forest Park on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 15.

The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force was notified after a 65-year-old man came across the two swastikas that were spray-painted on tree stumps inside the park in the vicinity of Park Lane South between Myrtle Avenue and Freedom Drive in Richmond Hill, within the confines of the 102nd Precinct.

“Sadly, antisemitism has struck again in Queens, this time at Forest Park. Hatred against Jews is a growing issue and we cannot allow this to keep happening,” Councilwoman Lynn Schulman said. “When a constituent called this to our attention, we immediately notified the NYPD and I am thankful to the 102nd Precinct for their immediate response.”

A 12-year-old boy has been arrested for scrawling swastikas and other anti-Semitic symbols on a Rego Park playground last week.

The boy, whose name has not been released, was charged yesterday with aggravated harassment, according to news reports.

The boy allegedly drew dozens of swastikas and messages such as “Heil Hitler (sic)” in chalk over the school yard at P.S. 139, located at 93-06 63rd Dr.

 “Truly unbelievable,” Council Member Karen Koslowitz wrote on twitter. “I am shocked that a 12-year-old committed this crime. It’s completely unacceptable and has no place in society.”

Police may have a hate crime on their hands after a Rego Park elementary school was tagged with antisemitic graffiti overnight on Friday depicting swastikas and other Nazi symbolism.
 
David Aronov, a representative from Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz’s office, said their office got a call about the markings left in the playground on Friday afternoon as school staff noticed and paid a visit with state Senator Toby Ann Stavisky to P.S. 139, located at 93-06 63rd Drive, to see it for themselves.

 
“I am horrified, disgusted, and nauseated, to say the least, of what I have witnessed today,” Koslowitz wrote in a Twitter post. “Nazi imagery and anti-Semitic slurs were drawn at the P.S. 139 Playground in Rego Park. I was on the scene today and most of the imagery has been washed away. Enough is enough!”
 
Aronov said the 112th Precinct was called to investigate, though many of the markings had been washed away by the time police arrived to take the report.
One drawing, reminiscent of the Nazi Wehrmacht eagle, is believed to have taken a little longer to create, Aronov said, leading them to believe the work was done sometime in the night.

I found this last one interesting. The hatemongers decided to scrawl the Soviet Union's old hammer and sickle too for some reason, then suddenly got conscientious and scratched the word Jews. As if all those swastikas weren't significant enough.






Update:

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered State Police to help find the vandals who scrawled dozens of Swastikas and other anti-Semitic symbols and “Heil Hitler” in a Queens schoolyard.

The Nazi symbols and slogan were discovered on Friday at Public School 139 by a school custodian who reported it to the NYPD, Education Department officials said.

"I am appalled and disgusted by the Swastikas and other anti-Semitic symbols of hate that were scrawled in a Queens schoolyard,” Cuomo said in a statement on Sunday.

"In New York, we have zero tolerance for such vile acts of anti-Semitism. I am directing the State Police Hate Crimes Task Force to immediately assist the NYPD in the investigation of this hideous act and hold those accountable to the full extent of the law.”

 Yeah, Andy, send the state troopers to get these vandals. Such a dumbass exhibitionist. Fix the subway idiot.






 

Goldfeder wants flying swastikas banned

After a banner featuring a swastika soared above city and Long Island beaches over the weekend, a state assemblyman is looking for the government to prevent it from happening again.

The sky banner wasn’t meant to be anti-Semitic. It was paid for by the International Raelian Movement, a religion based in Switzerland whose followers believe life on earth was created by a species of aliens, WCBS 880′s Alex Silverman reported. They are trying to rehabilitate the swastika, which the group said had a meaning of peace and love before it was adopted by the Nazis.

Regardless, Assemblyman Phil Goldfelder, D-Queens, told Silverman he is asking the city’s Department of Consumer Affairs to look at regulating swastikas in the sky and other offensive ads, which he thinks can be done without opening a constitutional can of worms. He’s also considering introducing legislation.

The Raelians, however, say the sign should be protected under the First Amendment.

Yeah, I think our local electeds need to be reschooled in the Constitution. And in message context.

Cars vandalized with swastikas in Bellrose

Residents of the Bellerose section of Queens woke up Friday to find messages of hate scrawled around their neighborhood.

Swastikas marked many cars, a fence, and a garage, CBS 2′s Tamara Leitner reported.

Carolyn Lyew said her blue Toyota was covered in swastikas near the corner of 87th Avenue and 256th Street.

“I’m just hoping it’s kids in the neighborhood who are not aware because anything else is unconscionable,” she said.
