Work expands at Steinway Mansion

From George the Atheist:

After 5 months of inactivity since purchasing in March the properties (18-39 & 18-41) immediately south of their Steinway Mansion on 41st Street, the new owners of these adjoining lots, Salvatore Lucchese and Philip Loria, are currently demolishing the residence, storage sheds, and garage of the late Armin Urban, the previous owner.

And what will we now, pray tell, have here?

An opportunity for well connected insiders in Vallonia to profit at the expense of the community's well being? Check out the paper trail.

Throw the peasants a few trinkets for their little programs and they will be happy and clueless as the world moves on.

Just a hunch, but I think there will be some kind of tech hub/networking space bullshit building like the one that was approved in Union Square against the protestations and at the chagrin of the constituents and community there.

"Chagrin" of the community? That's a joke.

At this point....who cares. The vista has been destroyed. Rehashing it is morbid. RIP!
Land is relatively cheap in Queens and underdeveloped. Griping online won't change that.ONLY your votes.

Folks, read my even more recent blog posting replete with new photos, commentary, and burning unanswered questions on this Steinway Mansion issue HERE. Check it out.

Will the press - the city-wide papers and communities - ever cover this matter? Huh?

Anonymous said...

no offense but how could there be a tech hub/networking space there with no transportation close by?

Dear Losers,

We are going to build a wall so that we don't have to look at born and raised queens residents complaining.

i for one would like to see "glamping" come to the Steinway Mansion like it has at the Riis Bath House. who wouldn't love a tent city right here in the borough where we will all soon be homeless anyway.

How stupid can you be messing with the name 'STEINWAY'.

This farce is being followed by people around the world. Trust me on that.

Hmmmm. Touching a raw nerve here. The Vallonian elite feels the heat.

Does someone have something on them - like a list of names that would shock the community?

feel better big boy? now what do you suggest? unlike other communities, say more sophisticated places like Manhattan, Brooklyn or the Bronx, there is no money because elected officials are controlled by developers and developers feel they can do anything they want to f*k over their community and make money off the backs of kids - its the 1980s right? sure.
ask crowley.

IGNORANT.

The comments here are so Queens. Don't know what is worse - the black eye its movers and shakers gave it as they grab the money and stomp the community into the ground, or the passive 'walk all over me' the community lets them do to it.

Sad. Shameful. Embarrassing to everyone in our city.

@ Anonymous #4: "At this point who cares?"

Plenty of us. If you read George's updated posting (see above), quite a few issues have not been resolved. For example: What's going to be constructed there? How will the additional traffic be handled on that dangerously narrow hilltop? How will the seemingly private appropriation of the public property be legally resolved?

I was actually referring to Union Square. But I get where you're coming from, because there is seemingly only one person that gives a shit about the development and shady machinations behind the surroundings of the mansion and that's GTA, more power to him.

"no offense but how could there be a tech hub/networking space there with no transportation close by?"

None taken, but this city doesn't give a shit where they put anything for example their rezoning plans for towns for one and the people in charge have no goddamn sense anymore and clearly never had which is why I came up with that (it doesn't help that the majority of de Faustio's cult like administration are not even from New York). Actually in these messed up times, every green and public space, the city and their parks dept turn it into a venue for networking.

As for transportation, all of the target demo for such a thing like a theorized uses uber and lyft, so that solves that.

That's a possibility also. Crappy sent me an article that said that camp actually got 300 people to pay to dwell there. There is a moron market for this after all.

What ever happened to the Friends of Steinway Mansion - research facility, performance space, museum?

Damn site better than a piano shaped foundation in Phillip Rinaldo or whatever whose name replaced Steinway Community Park. Are they nuts? A name valued in the top ten replaced by a forgotten hack?

Come on Costa, man up! Green light of support from you and they could raise enough money for 10 Steinway Mansions.

You guys have made your money off the warehouses give some crumbs to the community.

Rumor has it they're going to build a usual Queens hotel there.

You mean a homeless shelter? Can't think of a better image for Vallonia.

Any idea when they are going to set the first fire?

What a shame. But if nobody can live in it, or work in it, or somehow use it, or at least even just visit it or otherwise appreciate its merits (whatever they may be), and it has become and is left un-moored from its historical context, then . . .So It Goes.

#
there are plenty of people interested in it and have good uses for it but its that tiny vallonian clique that controls everything up there - look how that made that steinway playground over to one of their boys or one of their boys tore down that church rectory at st george and and named the 'senior' center for that old lady hack (lets not talk about the tombstones from the cemetery in backyards).

naw rumor has it that they want to rename steinway street for the old man when he is gone - peter vallone blvd anyone - but their day is soon coming to a close and it they do not burn down the damn mansion (which could happen at anytime) then it will sooner or later find a use it deserves.

that clique really has to go and what will kill it is the same thing that got crowley - the kids they brought in to make money off will overthrown them just as the slaves overthrew their masters.

as someone said to queens council about this place it doesn't matter what the hell they do with culture in astoria if the mansion goes the borough will never live down that black eye.

How do you "burn down" a structure made of solid granite?

The owners are still fronting that they want to have their officers there - perfect - no one in the building and varuummm!!!

Of course the big problem here is the failure of the politicians to support the communty. Do they really believe this is the best use? Or where they paid off?

This is good. Its being sent around:

"The word 'Steinway' may not mean much to the local bumpkins but it cuts deep in certain quarters. Rumor has it that an attorney, a private investigator, with ties to Lincoln Center, took it upon herself to track down all the silent partners on this deal and will release that info if and when the mansion is destroyed.

"The big world out there may be silent, but everyone, the right people, are watching. What will the locals say when Astoria becomes forever tainted because a handful of knuckleheads betrayed their community and got greedy? Quit while you are ahead. Time to cash in your chips. Time to get up from the table.

"Lets see how clever you all really are."

Anonymous said...

That’s classic, a private investigator is looking into the silent partners. Listen to yourself, a conspiracy over a small real estate deal... go put on your aluminum foil hat!!
Mansion has been completely restored and still you complain... The chips are all in and there ain’t no silent partners to ask for permission!! so FU and the prius you road in on!!
Build them bigger & better, make all the cry babies crazy!!

Anonymous said...

I don’t think they can afford a Prius, maybe a beat-up mini-van.

Anonymous said...

Hmmm. that touched a raw nerve. Must be true.

What would the last two posters say if they knew that cameras around the mansion are following their every footsteps?

hehehehehehe

Its been 'renovated' you buzzurros, not 'restored.' The lime green paint is a dead giveaway.

Next the faded plastic flowers and gaudy statues of Aphrodite in the garden.
