New video of Forest Hills arsonist

From PIX11:

There's a new view of a serial arsonist terrorizing the Queens neighborhood of Forest Hills, where at least seven fires have been intentionally set in less than two months.

A home surveillance camera is giving investigators their best glimpse yet of a man suspected of destroying new homes by burning them. The firebug seem to target buildings under construction, investigators said.

"He appears to be a young male of unknown ethnicity," FDNY spokesman Robert Boyce said.

The video was taken this past Sunday, about the time of the seventh and most recent fire. In that case, a home on 69th Road was torched for the second time.

Police are ramping up the search.

The city must draft new legislation that requires all construction sites to be secured with cameras and/or a security guard until construction is completed. There probably is a law out there already but there needs to be one for single houses as well. Let's see if the City Council moves on this.

why don't we make EVERYONE HIRE AND PAY an armed guard in their home 24/7/365?
we could save alot of money on police
just think how quick the crime would go down
and before you say that its stupid, right now the law is if you DO NOT BUY HEALTH INSURANCE, YOU GO TO JAIL
why do people think that every time something happens, that a law will fix it?
the problem is that the criminal did not follow the laws in the first place
so a second law will suddenly right all of our society's problems?
you must be a politician or a special kind of stupid, because they are the ones who time and time again think that a new law will fix everything

I am with the crapper and Moretti on this, they should have their own security, even high def cameras around if they want to build something ostentatious and that is not in character and practically dwarfs the other houses in the neighborhood. But it's weird that this wasn't even on the cops radar after the first 2 fires. Which is quite disturbing considering that there isn't even enough force to patrol even wealthier towns. But I did see plenty of cops in military cosplay guarding a giant coca cola trailer by radio city music hall.

What's peculiar is that I have seen hundreds of these types of mcmansions in southern queens neighborhoods, even in ozone park and howard beach, get built in the past 10 years and nothing happened. Which leads me to think this flamer is some sort of guy fawkes for the over-developement era.

And do they need that tacky humongous gate. It looks like something from a richie rich comic.

Has anyone seen that Karen Koslowitz interview on TV regarding this?
She is as dumb as a post. A lot of Queens's pol's are out to lunch except when it comes to taking "bribes" in the form of campaign contributors. As far as the city council, the only time they move on anything is when they move their bowels.
Law makers taking action on this? You gotta be kidding. And Moby Stavisky was very convincing about her "concern".

Construction sites all over Manhattan have 24/7 security. Home builders should have the same. It protects the owner and residents at the same time. In this instance, in Forest Hills, a law would be deemed worthwhile as a matter of life and death.

Insurance companies do require that construction sites be well-secured. Not sure if the homes involved have vandalism insurance.

Do tell. Quote the law also.
While you are at it, hire a few bodyguards to prevent muggings, carjackings and home
invasions.
We just keep the cops around to protect the karaoke bars, dope dealers and whorehouses.
Sounds good?

I disagree with the security guard business.
Having said that, I'll wait this one out to see who the dude is, something does not seem right.
If over development was his thing there would be much better areas to practice is sick perversion.
As far as hate goes, seems he hates half finished mansions, that's about it.

Correct me if I am wrong: This video shows a person walking by, are we to assume that person is the arsonist and how. We don't actually see this person setting anything on fire. Didn't they just release a photo of a person on a motorcycle who they said was a suspect, then turned out not to be the arsonist. And how do we know it is a hate crime, how do we know it is someone pissed off about over development. I think they are just grasping at straws, because they really have no clues on exactly what is going on except someone is setting construction sites on fires in an area of Forest Hills. That is the only fact as now, everything else is circumstantial and opinion. Also catching an arsonist is not actually that easy. But until you actually have some proof, stop just throwing whatever sticks to the wall. Just report FACTS, which is what the media should be doing.

If they put up enough videos they MIGHT actually have an image of the perp...

'Unknown'?

That means black/hispanic/middle eastern.

When it was a white guy they suspected they put his picture front and center pretty quick.

Politically correct policing is a losing proposition.

obamacare is administered by the IRS
there is a financial penalty for not buying a health insurance plan
take that to the final conclusion
if you do not follow the IRS rules, you go to jail
PLEASE TRY TO TELL ME NO ONE EVER WENT TO JAIL FOR NOT PAYING TAXES

WE NEED PSYCHIC SYLVIA BROWNE ON THIS CASE. ONLY SHE CAN SOLVE THIS CASE. NYPD SUCKS !!!

Some news outlets are reporting he has a gun. I don't see a gun in that video, and if he did, that's another level of crazy (to remove it from his ankle and move it to a pocket in public).

This all points to how shockingly little manpower the NYPD has these days. They could stake out construction sites, but it doesn't seem that they are. 112 is probably lucky if it gets 3 or 4 patrol cars out per night.

We won't know this guy's motive until they catch him.

But putting the onus on the homebuilder instead of the police is absurd.

@Molan Labe

Why don't you do your research before spewing nonsense?

Here, read it carefully

https://www.healthcare.gov/fees/fee-for-not-being-covered/

The IRS will hold back the amount of the fee from any future tax refunds. There are no liens, levies, or criminal penalties for failing to pay the fee.

Now back to the regularly scheduled topic.

Are these legal constructions? Does anyone know the zoning regulations in the area?

A lot of people mentioning how little the NYPD are doing here; this isn't an NYPD problem. This is a 112 precinct problem. It's almost like the officers from the 112 are oblivious to tons of things. You'll see them hand out parking tickets to a UPS truck, but when you flag them down because of something suspicious, 99% they have the nerve to say "we can't do anything until something happens." With that logic, they may as well wait until the arsonist burns down the entire neighborhood of ugly homes over there before they even blink at the situation.

Remember that long spate of home burglaries around Forest Hills two years ago? It took forever to get that under control too.

If you start adding the other precincts to he mix is an NYPD problem.

Policies, procedures come from the top, they are not locally decided or set.

FYI, Sylvia Browne is dead so she may not be able to help.

Lots of assuming here, and more crazy than usual.

These videos of the "suspect" are nonsense. It's a guy walking past the construction/arson sites. Unless we're not seeing something incriminating, walking past the scene of a crime isn't a crime.

There is no evidence these are hate crimes towards any group.Yes, all the homes are in a Bukharian Jew neighborhood, but we could have a lazy arsonist who lives nearby and thinks it's fun to burn down unguarded homes in the process of being constructed.

These sites should, at the very least, especially now with all these fires, have cameras surveying the site. If not by law, by common sense.

With the insulting raise the NYPD was just given, no one is doing anything extra, like spending extra time patrolling near these houses, without a direct order from the top.

So if its not the NYPD's problem, then who?? Who should be investigating this, the NY State police??

FDNY Fire Marshals investigate all arsons, writes out and signs the complaint report, gathers evidence, makes the arrests and will testify in court. NYPD only assists.

The Fire Marshals are fact are the only agency that can make the determination that a fire is an arson. NYPD does not make that determination.

"Fire Marshals have law-enforcement powers in New York City. On matters dealing with illegal fire activity or arson, Fire Marshals serve as “police officers”. They have legal authority to conduct investigations and to make arrests. Investigators with the FDNY Bureau of Fire Investigation will involve the NYPD when and if necessary. FDNY Fire Marshals often work closely with NYPD detectives to resolve crimes involving arson or illegal fire acitivities."

in NYC NYFD BFI unit is in charge for all the investigations.
They work closely with NYPD, NYS and DHS.

So the fire insurance premiums go up in that area and the insurance carriers are happy.
