Homeless are sleeping all over LaGuardia Airport

From PIX11:

The homeless population has surged in New York City and now the problem has gone beyond crowded shelters and dirty streets.

More and more homeless are squatting at LaGuardia Airport.

"I think it's the responsibility of the city to make sure that they have actual shelters and can take care of people. They shouldn't be using public facilities like that," airline passenger Vassyl Lonchyna said. "And they shouldn't be cluttering this terminal,"

And while that passenger blamed the city for a poor response at LaGuardia, New York City doesn't actually have jurisdiction within the airport.

According to a spokesperson for Mayor Bill de Blasio's office, "The Port Authority has its own police department and funds a nonprofit to provide homelessness services."

Wow. So Joe Biden was actually right for once.

LaGuardia does indeed look like a third world country.

Am I missing something here?

Airport security, especially in the metro NY-NJ area is supposed to be tough. When travelling FROM any NY airport, I am not even allowed to bring a water bottle on the plane.

But, these people can roam freely all around me?

Sooner or later, one of them will run amok, and shoot or stab someone. Or, God forbid, a terrorist will pose as one of them, and do something even worse.

Then, and probably only then, will there be any action from our useless public officials.

There is NO reason why the NYPD should be holding off on removing them.

This is an airport, for Christ's sake....

Security here is JOB 1 - get on it!

To 'A Better NYC': The reason why LaGuardia looks like a Third World country, is because the borough in which it resides is officially 'The Fourth World!'

Hence, LaGuardia Airport is an international disgrace that should have been completely renovated during the entrenched, 12-year debacle of Michael Bloomberg's dictatorship, totalitarian, monarchy rule that existed for the sole purpose of rewarding monstrous failure, and epic, humanitarian (and ecological) fail.

So, when can New York's Feudalist-governed, taxation without representation-laden, indentured servants and bonded slaves expect to see a crumbling bridge named after this voracious thief? After all, it worked so well (posthumously) for Ed Koch!

AIRPORTS ARE NOT PUBLIC SHELTERS. THE CITY SHOULD BE DOING EVERYTHING IT CAN TO PROVIDE THEM WITH THE HELP THEY NEED, BUT FIRST THEY NEED TO BE REMOVED FROM THE PREMISES. THE PANY&NJ IS THE WORST AGENCY AROUND.I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE RUNNING OUR AIRPORTS. AIRPORTS IN EUROPE ARE SO MUCH BETTER.

At first when the far right media began criticizing DiBlasio for the homeless problem i thought it was unfair criticism but now what started out as a minimal rise in homelessness has turned into a SURGE. We are in the midst of going back in time to the 1980's. HELP!!!

You have the slobs at the NYC Human Resources Administration to thank for not providing these people with their benefits.

To echo what Jackson Heights Johnny said, there are so many rules in and around the airports - you can't linger in your car too long at the pick-up curb, or else the PA cops will swarm your car; you can't bring anything even remotely sharp past the security gate; you can't bring liquid onto the plane; etc., etc. But homeless can squat at a high security location? I'm by no means heartless, but come one - get them out of there and forcibly bring them to a shelter or social services agency (for their own good). Are the airports considered public property and therefore there's nothing they can do? Or are they choosing to do nothing?

Which City Council members sits on the public safety committee? Why aren't they speaking up?

To Anonymous, who asked, "Which city council members sits (sic) on the public safety? Why aren't they speaking up?"

Oh, Anonymous---I love a good joke! And, disrupt their stressful day of lunch and a manicure (at 112K a year, plus stipends for chairing additional, vacuous committees)?

The homeless, ironically, are accomplishing MORE in a week's time (by malingering about at LGA), than whatever passes for honest, ethical leadership (that leads by example), and taxation WITH representation throughout the entire city council, for a whole year!!!

Alas, if only they could trade places for the ultimate 'Switcheroo,' and for an honest day's pay to finally prevail upon a terminally rigged city council that now devalues all honesty itself!
