Destruction of what's left of Waldheim continues

Another Waldheim gem is quickly disappearing. According to the city's website, 143-01 Cherry Avenue dates back to 1910. It is presently owned by Lin Xin Xiang. The building has one violation open since August 16th for building without a permit.

Mr. Xiang does not care about fireplaces, history or century-old trees. He clearly only cares about making money from this property.

(Since the area got rezoned R3X, they can only build a detached two-family there.)

Another house ruined by the Asians....welcome to the new China!

Wow, a chinaman knocking down a beautiful historic house to build a brick box of crap. Shocking.

Is there no one in the neighborhood who can fight this infestation of ugly buildings. At the very least, should new buildings be required to look like the neighborhood homes instead of those cheap brick boxes?

I live around the corner and was shocked over the summer to see this happen. A gorgeous home that needed a few cosmetic repairs, nothing worth tearing down.

Along Smart, across from this house, another cute old home was demolished for another brick crap box.

Both display permits for 2 family, but it's obvious they will be 4 family. Sad.

A common vernacular Dutch colonial structure....nothing to cry about compared to the wealth in Waldheim that has already vanished. That is worth crying over!

Julia Harrison did not support landmark status for Waldheim. That myopic move on her part contributed to its demise.

Dam shame however it appears some idiot already f_cked up that house tearing out all the Dutch 6 over 1 pane windows, sills, 4 dormer knockouts. They then wrapped it in cheap plastic the only thing that looks correct is the chimney. All the rest appears stock cheap Home Depot.
I cant imagine what become of the original woodwork inside if previous owners were that cheap and stupid.

What will be plopped up in its place will be another disgusting bland box with nothing green. YES....welcome to the new China!
All thanks to brainless Queens’s voters re-electing the same assholes, liars and crooks

What?

Look at the Greeks and Italians in Astoria. Blacks in Rosedale. Irish that run the politics in Queens.

Why single out Asians? Every signal in Queens points them to do this. They are part of the 'Cult of Development', a disease that is destroying a once beautiful and forward thinking borough.

The problem is very simple. Your elected officials do not discuss community preservation, only development because they get donations form developers.

Every effort at trying to reverse this is sabotaged by them and their stooges in the press.

There is no civic culture in Queens, merely long winded speeches and ass-kissing socials.

Its so bad in your borough, that no one from outside it wants to help. They have their own battles, your poverty subsidizes their wealth, and in the final analysis, who wants to work with people that basically have no one but themselves to blame?

Think about it.

Outer space aliens did not elect this band of losers that pretty much calls the shots there.

You did.

So quit bitching and whining. Pretty much everyone is tired of hearing one dirge after another from Queens.

Do something or shut the f$$%k up!

It's not just Asians. The Russians in Forest Hills and Kew Gardens have totally bricked up everything. It's disgraceful, all these gorgeious homes and trees, gone.

Don't worry, when Ebola hits Queens, all the development will end. For 50 years.

What is it with all the immigrants coming in now? Do ANY of them have ANY taste???

Briarwood too -- One family homes made into multi stories and all next to each other but with different developers. Looks like tenement city. AND the ones that have gone bankrupt - building skeletons.

In kew gardens, off Leferts, an israeli developer destroyed a nice section of a block of tudors and greenery on Talbot street, and replaced them with these horrible brick three family townhouses with concrete parking spots in front of them. On the other hand, another developer converted a small factory a street away on kew gardens road, facing the cemetery, into these nice condos. Why the ugly condos ended on a beautiful block, and the nicer condos on a desolate part of the same neighborhood is beyond me.

Try pulling some of this crap in some of their countries and see how far you get.

They do what our native-born politicians and our native-born civic culture allow.

Next question.

posted elsewhere. now my question is yet again, why do we support a law designed to benefit a tiny minority with public funds.

overturn the landmarks law

-----

Waldheim tried to get landmarked 5 times over a 15 year period. They were ignored, insulted and abused by the LPC. Several staffers at the time that I was involved in trying to get Waldheim landmarked admitted to me that they thought it was worthy of designation, but were told not to protect it by the elected officials of the time (Donald Manes, Claire Shulman and others). A tragic loss.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Manes and Shulman were accomplices BUT then Councilmember Julia Harrison could have supported land marking. She refused . I guess she was trying to clean up her anti Asian image by siding with Chinese who were most responsible for desecrating Walheim with their shoddy multi family buildings that replaced gracious homes.

Hey, Mr BUT....Harrison supported full landmark status for the RKO Keith's theater. She WAS NOT anti Asian.

Anonymous said...

Harrison supported the Keith's because it was a great political football for her to run with.

Dont you see how stupid this process is when it depends on people that you just mentioned? For the stupid self-centered personal issues a community gets destroyed?

wrong wrong wrong

Horrible! Queens is the worst with corruption and civics. The civics are bot strong enough to hold to the corruption that has taken place ans still does. So many neighborhoods have suffered, lost architectural and historical gems, they look chip choppy and not cohesive. Its just a shame and something that could of.been avoided and helped in so many ways. The stupid LPV and Queens politicians when they die won't be remembered and if they do it will be remembered as bad guys. If they did some good for Queens they will be remembered for a lifetime but they dont thing.longterm only short term pocket money. RIP to another beautiful home and the impact it wll have an the esthetic and hstory of this neighborhood.

Please can we promote or advertise these neighborhoods to hipster or yuppie families, they will at least appreciate these older homes. I'm sick of these Asians and their mentality and ugly buildings.

Once yuppies and hispters get involved, the teardowns accelerate. Bad idea.

Yeah...Chinese hipsters will preserve the shred of what is left of Waldhein. Orientals like "new" not "old" buildings. The primitive superstitious Chinese are afraid of bad spirits in old buildings. What children they are. Uh...maybe if those spirits were "celestial" they might go for it.
