Show a little pride!

Our wanderings reveal more trashification. Last week it was the unsightly, dirty property at 67-70 Yellowstone Blvd. This week it's the corner of Austin St. & Ascan Ave., apparently the permanent home of New Town Grocery's gigantic filthy rag oops we mean awning.

You thought this was Dean & DeLuca, right? Easy mistake to make. We wonder why this has been allowed to remain for so long. There are even apartments right over the awning. Compliments on the view, not to mention the sanitation aspect.

Haven't any nearby businesses complained? What could be better than kicking back with an overpriced glass of wine at Jack & Nellie's on Ascan and a view of the shredded, bird-pooped New Town awning? This might be one of the few instances when yet another Starbucks, eyewear place or hair salon would be an asset as long as we didn't have to look at that ratty thing. The interior of the store further reflects its dignity level.

Hey, we're all for Mom-and-Pop stores, as long as Mom and Pop have some self-esteem.

I actually told the owner about his awning just a few weeks ago!!! He said he was going to replace it, but did not have enough money and that he was still waiting for insurance to finish payment for damage caused by the car that went through his window last year. So he will eventually will get a new awning.

What a shithole - and it's right across the street from the Natural. Maybe the Natural could replace it, given the outrageous prices they charge!

In Flooshing that kind of neglect wouldn't even be commented upon - no one expects any better.

In fact - that awning would be a major step up for a lot of businesses here.

This hits the nail on the head.

Taken in all, the biz districts in Queens are sad affairs.

Roofing over the SS Yards will kill them off.

Are stores allowed to advertise cigarettes on their storefront signage? I thought there was a new law.....

I actually walked by this today. While I did not think it was such a big issue compared to what I see on a daily basis in Jamaica, it was actually worse seeing it in person and the fact that this is Forest Hills, home of our wonderful borough president Melinda Katz.

Speaking of which, while walking home from Forest Hills along Queens Blvd, I was amazed how much garbage on the sidewalks right across the street from Borough Hall, it looked pretty dirty ghetto. In fact that stretch on Queens Blvd gets really ghetto. Says much about Queens Borough Hall and those in office there.

What can you expect from the Koreans who own the place? Once delis and small grocery stores like this were places young people could get part time jobs after school & on weekends.
No more. They only hire Koreans to work in this store.

His son, daughter, and a nice Hispanic man work there.

DOB will inspect condition of the awning in 7-10 business days.

There is no pride in Queens - only everyone with an open palm ready for grease knowing that their no-talent would get them nowhere anywhere else.

Politics, culture, civics, you name it: its true.

haha Anon #2 a whole blog should be written about the signs and terrible storefronts in Downtown Flushing. It would go on and on for years, a never ending blog. Those people in downtown Flushing need to be schooled on an interior and exterior design program. Horrible and cheap taste.
