Parks cuts down tree instead of unchaining it

"Hi QC,
I don't know how it all happened but the oak mentioned in the post of 6/19 has been taken down.
It was a beauty...unchained, with finality, by a chain saw." - Rachel
Here's proof tha, posting stuff here gets action. Unfortunately, this wasn't exactly the action most of us had in mind... It was nice of them to cut the tree down but leave the concrete sitting there so now it's even more of an eyesore.

Service Request #: C1-1-985659537
Date Submitted: 06/28/14 9:46:05 PM
Request Type: New Tree Request
Details: For One Address

Thank you for contacting New York City 311. Your Service Request has been sent to the Department of Parks and Recreation for action.

Perhaps planting a new tree will take care of it. Unfortunately, that concrete crap is likely to sit there until the next planting season, because this is how the Parks Department rolls.

Parks dept. always misses the point. Clueless and incompetent.

To save the tree, we had to destroy the tree.

Why didn't the stupid neighbors do it themselves ??
Why must almost everybody depend on the city to wipe there ass and do everything for them. NEVER RELY ON THE CITY TO DO SOMETHING RIGHT ESPECIALLY IN QUEENS !!
The city's contractors will make every excuse they can get away with to destroy a good tree because both the people cutting and hauling the get rewarded with BIG $$ with your tax dollars (thanks to the the corrupt city)
They then get reward themselves AGAIN to replace the tree and haul the cement they cut.
Its a big "oops scam" running a muck for years and nobody including the mayor gives a shit to clean it up. Nobody ever get's fired too.

If you want it done right do it yourselves people YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN IN QUEENS !!

This all could have been avoided with 1-Bolt cutter, snip snip years ago then keep your mouth shut.

The bulk of the Parks Dept. should be fired!

Wow this totally backfired! What incompetent idi*ts work for the Parks Department! This is such a shame, a living tree just died. It would of been better results if some residents or civic group got together and unchained the tree and cleaned up the mess around it. Unfortunate but that would of been the better solution. If we want things done right and fast we have to be involved or take things in our own hands. The people who work for these city departments are completely clueless and lack common sense. I for one when I see garbage in my neighborhood I pick it up and I also take off those "Cash for Car" signs or stupid "Buy Houses" signs any chance I get!

""are completely clueless and lack common sense"
Well yeah the requirements for the job have NOTHING to do with competency.
These people are on a buddy system, hire each others relatives who are all to stupid and lazy to have a job.
1/2 these parks workers, foreman, dirty supervisors and people "fixing the paperwork" to the benefit of the contract $$ should be fired and held accountable. --jail included!!
Why hasent somebody been held accountable or fired to set an example ? No explanation, no nothing ?

This drives me nuts..(note the stoops in the backround)

Can anyone s'plain me why these idiots in Ridgewood blow $500K+ on and old classic 1920s Stier, Kreischer & Burger row house then paint the sand-stone stoops & fine Bavarian woodwork doorways like a box of fruiteloops ?
There is a technique (Faux German wood-grain)and tinted shellack to do it right that lasts 30+ years.

In the recent years I have even seen grape, red, pink and lime green it makes me wanna throw up !! WTF ? Do these moron homeowners think they are in India, Trinidad or the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco ?

Someone really should be held accountable for this. I'd send this to all the major news outlets around town. It's worth the shot that someone else will run the story on a larger scale.

As long as developers and a tiny number of pet projects are given lavish amount of attention and resources we should figuratively bang their noggins against an virtual wall.

Sooner or later even a pol will wise up.
