Ramshackle chic on Roosevelt

Miss Heather came across a doozy of a house on Roosevelt Avenue recently.

Of course, the rest of the strip is no prize, either...

The grass needs cutting.

The old wooden attached houses should be banned. They are a danger to those unfortunate to live in them.

Shitty DIY wiring and ancient plumbing --often with some led in the pipes (and on the walls).

Say what you will about the apartment houses that will likely replace that garbage, at least they will be built with modern and safer materials.

I always tell people if you want to see what the real Queens is like take a ride under the Roosevelt el at night.

Ripe. Really ripe.

The old wooden attached houses are fine and easy to update electric, heating & plumbing. Its the dumb ass Illegals living in attics, crawlspace & cellars that's the problem. These people will put in 40 amp fuses (because the 20s blowing) then daisy chain eight or so 99cent store zip cords, hotplates & heaters. --they need to be banned or deBlasio simply enforce laws currently on the books in Brooklyn and Queens.

That shit wold never fly in Manhattan or DeBlasios adjacent attached wooden houses attached to his in Brooklyn

Don't blame the illegals.

The politicians are the ones the open the door and want them here for photo ops and building "DemoCred" with programs and jobs for their followers.

This my friends, is the image of Queens that the world sees - and is in the future of LIC when those buildings start to age after baptism from a few floods and a spike in sickness from living on a brownfield ... and the developers have reaped their return.

Looks like a third world country?

My friends, a growing chunk of Queens IS a third world country.

You can thank Virginia Joe, a string of incompetent borough presidents (including the current occupant) and most importantly, the electorate of Queens that can learn lessons in voter participation from just about any jerkwater country in the world.

Queens is great! It has the best food flea markets in the city!

What the hell is with that big awning saying the word "ecuador"? I thought I lived in the USA...guess I have the wrong country!

The shame of it is that those houses were there before anything else in that community, maybe even the subway.

Gary the Agnostic, your observation is spot-on. It was the first thing I thought as well.

Good chance that slumdog "immigration lawyer" making cash money off everybody's misery owns all 3 houses and has been waiting for a big bundled offer.
That For Sale sign may be for show set at some insane price.

this is between 68th Street & 69th Street & Roosevelt Avenue -- it has always been a dump that is for sure -- how come nobody that lives near there has called his congressman about this -- or the newspapers --

Looks just as bad as the crap on Linden Place in Flushing. Now which one is the ugliest? We oughtta have a contest - the Ugliest Residences in Queens.

And Jackson Heights is supposed to be the next up and coming neighborhood. I mean I know there are some nice areas such as the Historic district, but so much of it is crap and third world looking shit, just like these photos.

Joe, I love Clean Up Jamaica Queens, but this is Woodside, not Jackson Heights. Close, but no cigar.

I don't know, I see this shit and some of the shit in Flushing and I think, Jamaica is not really as bad as some of those places. Don't get wrong it is not wonderful, but there are certainly way better places than some of this shit that I have been seeing in these other places, especially parts of Corona and East Elmhurst, which might as well be another third world country.

Of course I want to say the usual, immigrants are slobs, but the real culprits are the owners of these places, who do not take care of them, let them go to shit and don't have any type of rules for their tenants. And the majority of them are immigrants themselves.

Hell, I have some third world folks in my building, but it is a co-op and there are rules like no hanging out in front of the building, no ball playing, no music, no barbecuing, and the place is well taken care of.

The problem with so many places landlords and property owners don't do jack shit and the city allows this.

An absolutely lovely piece of property....once upon a time, in a land far, far away.

Betcha they were beautiful houses when they were first built, George.

That strip will indeed be bundled and a multi unit structure will be built, with balconies for extra storage space, of course.

Roosevelt Av is one long eyesore. Disgusting.

In the '90's I walked past that location three or four times a week,
witnessing the gradual deterioration with much sadness. At one time these were well kept sweet homes. I noticed that there had been a fire a couple of years ago.

Probably the owner is letting it rot on purpose.

There was a house on 60th Street whose owner was leaving faucets running in order to flood the house. He was hoping to kill two birds with one stone, cash in on his insurance and get the building taken down quickly at the same time.

One extremely cold winter day, water was gushing out of the house onto 60th street causing hazardous conditions.
The sidewalk and street were icing over.

Much to the absentee owner's dismay
neighbors took action getting the water shut off to the premises.

Who cares enough about the neighborhood to do anything about this?
