Large cell tower proposed for Laurelton

From the Daily News:

Residents are speaking up against the 60-foot cell tower that Big Red plans to put up on a commercial strip in Laurelton.

The free-standing tower, proposed at 229-19 Merrick Blvd., would double the network capacity in the congested area, Verizon spokesman David Samberg said.

But concerned homeowners and community leaders say the structure would be sandwiched between homes and would be “unsightly” and “obtrusive,” and could also pose health risks.

“We have nothing in the community of Laurelton that is that tall,” said Bess DeBetham, who sits on Community Board 13.

“It would be obtrusive. The aesthetics, the health hazards — we don’t want or need that.”

Samberg said that the commercially-zoned proposed location was the least residential option.

yeah, people want cell phone service in every inch of ground but not the towers

Someone made a campaign donation and as usual, the public suffers.

I'll take the tower over the ghetto people. I feel safer and healthier being around cell towers then fake thugs.

And if this was on your block, you'd say what?

Anon No. 3:

This area is no ghetto. It might be better than whatever neighborhood you live in.

those things give off radiation, they are good for no one.Especially if you are intolerant of other races.

and at what cost really, except to the rapid decline of civilization. Is it really worth your twitter feeds and facebook updates everyone?these are putting kids at risk most of all,and still 50% of the state still thinks pot should not be legal, when smoking an ounce a day will not even equal the lifelong frying damage to an undeveloped brain.

I'll just leave with this>>>http://www.celltowerdangers.org/studies.html

I live close to this location. And I can tell you it is not a ghetto and homes are very expensive. No one has knocked on my door to let me know they are wanting to put up a new tower close by. Just found this out today on Queens Crap. There is plenty of other places it could be placed. So sick of this crap.
