Coyote at Calvary!

From the NY Post:

A reddish-colored coyote has moved into Queens, and like most city singletons, it's looking for a mate.

The majestic creature was recently photographed among the gravestones of Calvary Cemetery in Woodside.

It's probably a yearling born last spring who got kicked out of his parents' home in December to make room for a new crop of cubs, said wildlife expert Paul Curtis, of Cornell University.

Now it's on the hunt for a partner to start a family of its own. The mostly carnivorous creatures are no threat to humans unless they're have rabies, but keep an eye on your pet dogs, Curtis warned.

100% WRONG!
These wild predators will take a 60-80 pound child right over a 6 foot wooden fence in a heartbeat if hungry.
I seen a pack of 3 of them do it to a pet pig in Hollywood, broad daylight in front of people at a party. The pig was squealing all the way back into Laural Canyon.
I'm not an animal hater (I have a cat, 2-goats, chickens) but not in this case.
Letting Coyotes multiply on this Island would be a HUGE mistake, not enough natural food supply for them.

Hopefully somebody will do the right thing.

Maspeth Mom says...

Joe is right they can drag away a small child with no effort.

But what is the right thing to do????

The right thing is to trap and remove it. Joe is right.

I say we release some around Jamaica, Elmhurst, Flushing, and Corona!!!

Id be all for releasing them in Elmhurst, Flushing, and Corona. Problem is they will just find and walk the LIRR tracks, bayside trails and come to Bayside, Little Neck & Long Lsland !!!

These animals are very clever, powerful and agile and thats what makes them so dangerious.
Especially when their numbers are high enough to form packs OR: if no longer scaired of people.
Ive had experiences and run-ins with them when I lived in Hollywood and Yucca Vally.
Im telling ya having them around is NOT NOT good news.
---Like I said people need to do the right thing.

I say we feed one of Joes goats to the coyote. And what "island" is he talking about? Go back to LA, ya hipster dummy.

Don't let Cathie Black hear about this or she may use this as the go to method to alleviate school over crowding.

I love seeing wild animals in back in the City.. I'm sure a Coyote is a much safer neighbor than the registered sex offender two blocks away or your drunk convicted felon neighbor who beats his wife. Ahhh.. You gotta love NYC

It's a predator. Forget about finding a mate, where's its dinner?

Someone just posted a video of this coyote trapped on a subway car, and it ran up a sleeping homeless man's body!

Send the coyote to my neighborhood. I know a few annoying children who need to be "dragged" away!

Watched channel 5 news about 6 years ago detailing the rescue of a dog from Jamaica bay. NYPD Aviation was pushing the dog through the water and onto the Queens shoreline. Unbeknownst to the reporter was the fact that the dog was a coyote. I live in Rockland and have seen them several times at Rockland Lake and along the Palisades Pkwy. It trotted away with it,s tail straight down.

i saw the coverage in jamaica bay. it jumped off the ice floe, swam to shore, shook itself off and ran into the woods. plenty of rodents for the coyotes to clean up. I love the fact they are here. If they can drag a child over a fence...wonder why it hasnt happened (note sarcasm). they are prolific thruout the US. west coast coyotes are not 60-80 lbs. they are smaller. sounds like you are one of the many coyote haters in this country. Sad humans want to kill every form of life. :(
