Seeking federal funds for local projects

From the Daily News:

The wish list for federal funding of local and state construction projects includes:

- High-speed Amtrak rail lines to Albany from the city and Buffalo.

- The second phase of the Second Ave. subway line linking the Bronx to Brooklyn.

- Completion of the long-planned Moynihan train station as a major transit hub.

- Rapid modernization of the city’s subway system.

- Underground freight tunnel to bring cargo into the region by rail.

- A complete overhaul of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

- Train linking Penn Station directly to JFK, LaGuardia and Newark airports.

- An upgraded air-traffic control system at the three airports, cutting down on delays and increasing capacity.

With the exception of the Albany to Buffalo High Speed Rail, all those projects are necessary, IMO.

Infrastructure is in bad need of an overhaul.

Jesus! Can't we kill this stupid Moynihan Station idea and use the money wisely? There is no need to turn the old post office into an extension of Penn Station that no one will use, and will only confuse travelers coming and going from the city. I swear, when these political crooks get an idea in their head it's a done deal.

Still no Staten Island subway tunnel to give us access to the forgotten borough.

Better move the Tappan Zee to the top of that list.
Moynihan Station - Dems doing what Dems do best, giving one of their own a big dollar shrine.

All of these are worthy projects. Some are more important than others, but all are worthy of some $.

Actually, a cross harbor tunnel, which will be used mainly to ship out garbage, is not necessary. We are surrounded by water and barging would be more economically feasible.

La Guardia was just overhauled but is still in the dark ages. Millions of tax money spent.

Gee, maybe we can spend more of our tax money on the subways so it goes straight into the pockets of the 200 waste of life vice presidents of the MTA and so they can cry poverty some more and fire another round of employees.

The Republican way.

Phase 2 of the second avenue subway extension is the most important but only because we are commited to phase 1, alas, the numbnuts at the Daily news said it would extend the subway from the Bronx to Brooklyn, that is horribly incorrect. Actually phase 2 will only consist of three additional stops going north to 106th Street, 116 and ending at 125th.
The second Ave subway was never planned to go north of 125th.

The most usefull of all those plans would be one train connecting a major transit hub in Manhattan to Laguardia and Kennedy.
