Care packages sent to USS New York

From WCBS 880:

Members of New York’s fire and police companies as well as workers of World Trade Center companies thanked sailors aboard the USS New York as part of the National Day of Service and Remembrance Thursday.

They packed big goody bag thank you’s featuring T-shirts and caps, NYPD and FDNY patches, shaving cream and razors for sailors aboard the ship, whose bow is made of World Trade Center steel, WCBS 880 reporter Rich Lamb reported.

Lorraine Warnsley, a broker for AON, which lost 176 people on 9/11, packed two of the bags.

“The fact that someone who lives in Manhattan is able to give tribute to a ship that’s named after us, to a ship that is dedicated for service on behalf of us…I don’t even have the words to say how proud I am of that.”

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano also participated in the project.

Cassano packed a bag and said “it makes me proud to be a New Yorker and a member of the FDNY.”
