If he had the brains God gave a goose he would have insisted that it had been found discarded on the street and offered to return it to her immediately. Double dumb.

This guys has a great future in politics.

I'd bet he bragged about his iPhone steal on Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter as well. This exhibitionist trend is the undoing of many contemporary crooks.

A young and stupid thug. A more experienced thug would've known better.

Thanks to this illustrious member of the "usual suspects", Daquan, the prison industry appears to be the only growth industry left in this country.

He looks simply ravishing in his "doo rag"! The kind of guy you pray your daughter never brings home!

I am sure next time he will know better when he graduates to bigger crimes . . . practice makes perfect (sigh)

I love stories like this. And I am so glad that these guys are so stupid. It makes catching them easier. The bad thing is...as the previous poster noted...practice does make perfect and jail doesn't really deter these morons.

Wade you play us like a fiddle.

Considering that gangstas often excell in sports and entertainment, they might make buckets of money.

So if your little princess brings home a fellow from some Carribean island, and if he makes buckets of money, no matter how sketchy, whats the issue?

Not the first woman who married for bucks, eh?

You're making the obvious error known in statistics as "survivorship bias". Sure, you may watch your modern day Roman gladiator games such as basketball and football on TV, and see a bunch of thugs in doo-rags and tattoos and think: "Well, that's not so bad, they may be thugs, but they make a lot of money." But you're obviously not looking at the thousands of losers, miscreants, two bit jerks, etc. etc. who also wear doo-rags but will never amount to anything. Exhibit A is our illustrious iPhone thief "Daquan". Which is more common - Daquan, or Allen Iverson? You know the answer, just use your damn brain.

So if your little princess brings home a fellow from some Carribean island, and if he makes buckets of money, no matter how sketchy, whats the issue?

There aren't too many folks in the Caribbean that make "buckets of money". The ones that do, I'll bet you $100 that they don't have stupid names like "Daquan".

I don't care how much money Ron Jeremy makes - I don't want him for a son-in-law either.

Well, I might know a few things about the Caribbean, having many good friends, indeed, some of the most interesting people I met, come from that part of th world. Said a lot of things that made me think. Gave me a new angle a new perspective.

Handled the accounting for the Marleys for a period of time. You might know them Wade. The have a few dollars. They have names like Ziggy that you poke fun at.

You must have had a sheltered life.

The tallest mountain is not Everest (5 mi), whose base is a high plateau, but Mauna Loa (6 mi), which starts on the ocean floor.

Some of the smartest people I ever met were from the streets. To see an illiterate person hide and cope with their problem is a marvel to behold.

As a whole (excepting politicians) without a doubt the stupidest people I met are Wall Street types. Not business people (in the true sense), but many (given every advantage possible) just had no creativity - when it all settled down, they were just a small cog in an elegant machine.

Fancy restaurants and big talk on Wall Street is all but meaningless if they don't have the street smarts to cut a deal with a paper broker in Red Hook for the life of them.

Their lemming like mentality is a marvel to behold. Plenty of people (including your humble writer) clearly could see the jig was up and got out a long time ago - but the media just focused on received wisdom and the feeding frenzy continued until the bottom fell out of the room.

The bitch is we all have to pay the price. And in that, I resent them. And over time, the public after being bled white to get the economy on track will feel the same. You will see.

Get used to this mess that those republican Wall Street types got us in - the ones you seem to favor in your postings. You will not see those boom times again in your lifetime.

Hope this tirade does not chase you off. Like a little discourse before supper. Aids in digestion.

Your friend

I seriously doubt that someone who allegedly handled the "accounting" for the Marleys would waste their time posting idiotic comments that nobody is going to read.

Hardly. I know who the Marleys are, I've been to Jamaica twice, and I know people that live in Montego Bay, quite well in fact.

The tallest mountain is not Everest (5 mi), whose base is a high plateau, but Mauna Loa (6 mi), which starts on the ocean floor.

You're now getting into an area that you definitely know less than me. First: You don't know what the hell you're talking about, because Mauna Loa is NOT the highest mountain on Earth when measured from the base (which is underwater), to the top. You're an obvious amateur, because Mauna KEA is the highest. Second: I've been on the summit of Mauna Kea, visited the observatory. I also walked out on to the lava field below, and poked the lava with a stick. Third: I know a thing or two about mountains, because I've summited several high ones, including the highest in South America (Aconcagua), and the highest in Europe (Elbrus). I've also climbed the mountain whose summit is the farthest point from the center of the Earth (Chimborazo in Ecuador). So, yes, I've lived quite a sheltered life, right?

This young lad is up there with the geniuses I saw one day that decided to steal a woman's cellphone not one hundred feet from the New York Federal Reserve Bank.

In addition to ten thousand police saturating the area, the Federal Reserve has it's own police force.

I guess the sight of men with machine guns did not give the boy a hint. Naturally he was nabbed in seconds and was lucky not to be shot as well.

It depends where you draw the border of Europe. Europe is rather politically / historically than geographically considered a continent; in some context you'd better speak of Europe as the western part of Eurasia.

Some definitions of Europe include some peaks of the Caucasus Mountains (border is the watershed), and therefore Mount Elbrus (5,621 m) would be the highest mountain of the continent.

By other definitions Mont Blanc (4 808,75 m selon la dernière mesure officielle de décembre 2005 - according to official measurement in december 2005) in France, the highest mountain of the Alps, would then also be the highest peak of europe.

Well, for one, you read it ...

No, not all of it. I nodded off after the paragraph about mountains.

No matter how much crap you cut and paste, you're still wrong, and didn't do your research on mountains.

"You are the weakest link! Good bye!"

It depends where you draw the border of Europe. Europe is rather politically / historically than geographically considered a continent......

Someone who obviously knows a thing or two, and uses his brain. That's the kind of stuff I read!

Miles Miles Miles

My bad on Hawaii. Was at work and did not do proper research and you caught it. A silver dollar for the boy in the balcony. Multitasking can take a car off the road, eh?

Don’t tell me about Wall Street. I was working at One Wall lending millions on projects around the world when most of the readers on this blog were in kindergarten.

Not only do I know the Marleys, but was good friends with the Steinways and through them got to know intimately their piano factory. Henry, whose rolodex was a who’s who of the social and entertainment elite of the world, was the most self-effacing person you would ever meet. There is a man whose family built a large part of NY, introduced classical music to America, hummed Gershwin tunes with his family name, and yet insisted on being called ‘Henry’. A fine way to treat a Steinway.

We were fast friends because we had something in common. Funny how, for some, when daddy gives you a big boost in life, it does not become a vantage point – a platform to look down on people – but a compulsion to use these advantages to do good.

Through Henry I met the men and women who, many cases, barely spoke English. Dorags and bikers aplenty on the shop floor. People who you would not want to meet, at first glance, in a dark alley. The kind of people some on this blog are quick to throw rocks at. Yet they know their work would be admired for generations and are justifiably proud of who they are.

Their pianos fit in the parlors of people that would smile benignly at you Wade. 99% of the concert and recording artists use Steinway pianos.

You know what their tolerance was? 3/1000 of an inch. One slip with an engraving tool, and a $100,000 piano would become wood kindling. Average wage? $30 an hour.

Anything you did Wade that would sit in the Met? I doubt it.

By way of comparison, when I worked on the ‘Street’ I met tiresome punks that would drive a company off a cliff – and make a million for their clumsy efforts. Swagger about and regal me with vacations in exotic parts, dull empty pursuits full of fire and motion that signified nothing of substance.

Wade, from your posts you seem to be a very sharp person. I bet someone spent a lot of money on your education. So why do you support this world ‘weakest links?’ Why waste your talent? Your posts show that you are smarter than that.

Leaving it was the best move I made. What about you? This city, and the age we live in, needs us.

I close my comments on this thread.

Wade, Wade, Wade... you may have the rubes here fooled with your outlandish tales, but I know better.

As Mark Twain was wont to say, "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness." From the prejudice and bigotry evidenced in your posts throughout the history of this bloggy blog page, it is clear you are either:
a) Lying about the extent of your travels outside the cocoon, or
b) Too dull/lazy to glean anything more meaningful from your escapades than factoids and trivia. Next time you step away from the UES, try gaining a richer understanding of the human condition.
