The only reason you have people standing up to "car totalitarians" is because there is money involved and people don't care enough about transportation issues other than urbanists to come out and make their voices heard. Just go to a civic association meeting where EVERYONE has something to say to the NYPD commander and community affairs staff, but when its time to talk about bus service cuts in the Queens bus redesign, half the people leave the civic meeting.
