1-family home turned into 16 unit SRO

33-07 153rd Street MLSLI Listing

"Hi Crappie,

Check out the attached MLSLI listing for a house for sale in Flushing in which the owner has made 15 bedrooms and if you rent out the owner’s bedroom you could make $7,295/month in rent, and as an added bonus if you pave over the front yard you could park two cars there. WTF??? Last I heard that was an SRO and paving over a front yard for parking is illegal. This house is also in an R2 zone, which means only single family homes. How is Success Team Realty located at 41-60 Main Street, (718)888-9115 getting away with this? The life and safety factor alone in this type of living situation is extremely dangerous and criminal. Who is going to stand up to these liars who are selling out our neighborhood?"

According to the Department of Buildings, there have been previous complaints about this illegal living situation. The complaints from 1992, 2005,2005,2007 and 2013 have all been resolved or closed.

Who should this be forwarded to? Where's the public advocate? And where is QB Pres Katz? Surely this can't be acceptable under her " if it's good for families it's good for Queens" program. Or is it?

Where else is all of china going to sleep?

Just a few blocks from the precious Broadway Flushing boundaries.
Sit on your Rickert Finlay covenants with your heads in the sand BFHA.
Coming to your nabe soon. China is knocking on your door!

So this is the affordable housing plan DeBlasio and his cronies have in mind.
Wow.
If they can fit 15 bedrooms into a one family home imagine what they can do with 10 floors!
Working on 1 billion people/sq mile project, I'd say they are off to a great start.

Your complaints to the city mean nothing. Check out Paul Graziano's interview that was posted on this site a couple of days ago.

It would be a good rental for a nice section eight family...

Isn't this listing enough probable cause for issuance of a search warrant?

Although NYC and the boroughs have a long history of this type of housing for about, let's say a century of precedence. It has now become a business model. This is why it will not be touched now. For it's now exploded into something so insane because people don't want to grow up and are willing to spend thousands of dollars to remain in their comfort zones and arrested development

And at the risk of coming off xenophobic, it has brought the attention of unscrupulous asian enterpreneurs, developers and investors and most certainly affluent russians and arabs.

And this is also why Mayor de Faustio is pushing for light rail on the shores of Kings and Queens counties and basement dwellings. There must be a gaping loophole that is making these maniacal ventures possible. And it's almost frightening, because these permits are going to price out people who cannot find and afford actual apts and homeowners who have to resort to renting rooms and basements to pay even more property taxes to stay afloat.

this particular house better hope the fire ninja doesn't resurface.

DOB needs to be investigated by the feds for its connection to the mob as it relates to the building construction industry.
It's the Devil's own bureau!

Broadway, safely within the confines of Rickert Finlay, stands like Fort Apache on the Great Plains.
Encircled by the enemy, it will be breached someday soon, as soon as the money for defending its dear covenants runs out.
This is an insular community that refused to get involved with the surrounding neighborhoods...safe in their ivory tower.
Depending mainly on their white knight, Frank Padavan, for years...these Ostriches are about to be ostracized by the real estate invaders.
Frank is long gone and the nabe will follow. Yawn! Just attend one of their geriatric meetings, and you will see what I mean.

Hey, Bill Duh Blasio can fit at least fifty compact apartments in that big space.
Coffin rental, anyone?

I am disgusted with all the racist comments !!!!

(that was sarcasm, btw)

How can the DOB get away with "resolving" and "dismissing" all the complaints that have been recorded for this property. Let's start a class action lawsuit against the DOB!!!

The sad fact is that if it didn't take place in this house, it would take place somewhere else. There are apartments in the building at the corner of Main Street and Franklin avenue in Frushing where sheets divide a single bedroom into three or four and the renter (fresh off the boat) is charged $1,000 for a bed. even worse the lease-holder has no action taken by the building when this issue was brought to their attention.

and to make it even more disgusting, every one of those renter who are fresh off the boat, and don't speak a work of English, applies for Welfare and gets $215/m in rent paid directly to the "landlord"

Give me a break, while doing building inspection in Corona I found 20 undocumented people living in the basement alone,FDNY was called and eviction was ordered, they were back the next day,
Your pissing into the wind if you believe you can get politics to protect your rights.
Follow the money, immigration BS is a cash cow and every politician is fighting for a chance at a teet.

"... applies for Welfare and gets $215/m in rent paid directly to the "landlord"

And don't forget about the EBT cards they all get and the cash they receive for working in a restaurant, or landscaping, or half-assed construction or delivering food, or washing cars, or.......

Hey, where is ICE when you need them? Or are they not allowed in our Sanctuary City???

We had to stay there in a pinch when our air was out last summer. Yong-Yi in room number 7 makes an incredible fresh Siu Mai that she steams on the radiator. She uses fresh wild chives hat she grows behind the shed (can't vouch for the soil but no one in our family got sick). And Mr. Fen who seems to be a permanent guest teaches tai chi by the Bowne Park lake at 6:30am most weekdays. You might want to consider packing a pair of dollar store flip flops for the shower. All in all we gave it a 7 out of 10. Once they get the cart service dim sum started on the weekends and there is easily accessible food service, we will add another point.

Great. We have a comedian here. Any info on the thread count on the sheets? Keep fiddling while Rome burns. We'll see if you're still laughing when the neighborhood is completely destroyed.

Fed up with the "racist" comments?
The truth, the real truth, and only the truth is spoken here.
This is a real unfettered freedom of the press site.
If your ears are to tender for plain speaking and the truth..tune in to Martha Stewart and bake some muffins.
Why do you read Queens Crap in spite of the "racisist" comments you claim to abhor?
Because it is truthful and juicy!
And it cuts to the bone all of the thieving politicians who allow these kinds of illegal conversions.

So, will Avella be holding another rally here?
Somebody has got to.
The local councilman doesn't give a golden shit!

The sheets? They do not provide them. You must bring your own. I need to clarify: this is NOT a hotel. We brought folding chairs and sleeping bags and just rented the room out for the month. I forgot to mention that there is Avery nice older woman who does acupuncture and facials. Just ask. I'm pretty sure she's always there. Rumor is she has some big gambling debt and is afraid to go outside.

Anonymous said...

The listing has been changed to remove the crazy parts. But I'm sure the intent remains the same.

Which room is for gambling and where is the Happy Ending?

Occasionally there is a mahjong game going on in the little room to the left of the staircase. Generally on a Thursday night. I've not heard of any Happy Endings but there is a foot massage place across from the church on 158th that will send someone over if you call.

Anonymous said...

Pretty funny JQ!!!

What foot massage? I need something more. 15 bedrooms, there got to be whore somewhere.

Anonymous said...

No whores I'm afraid. Just a lot of guys who are cooks in take out restaurants and a few manicurists. The whores are all at the brothels on 164th. Quick 9 block walk. You can do it!

Anonymous said...

There are very few whores actually kept on premises along 164th Street. n ear Crocheron. That's too risky in case of a police raid.
