Special Enforcement to go after illegal hotels

From the Daily News:

The battle to shut down illegal hotels in New York City — which officials say are draining the already dwindling stock of affordable housing — is getting a $10 million budget boost.

The de Blasio administration is giving the money — which will be spread out over the next three years — to its newly beefed-up Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement, which goes after illegal hotels that advertise on sites like Airbnb.

The money will go toward hiring five new staffers, state-of-the-art data to find illegal operators and a public awareness campaign to inform people what their rights are under New York’s strict hotel occupancy law.

Let the Mayor get the $10 million to fund this new Special Enforcement from the unpaid ECB Violation fines and penalties.

And, while he is at it give the "newly" formed Special Enforcement force the job of collecting these outstanding fines and penalties.

OOOOOH

Another new government agency.

And it will grow and grow and be funded FOREVER,
Long after Airbnb is gone.

How wonderful.

All will be right in the world now.

I will sleep sooooo much better this evening...
(as I pray for the Paris victims)

No NYC born American Citizens need apply. No White people need apply. No Irish Americans Need Apply. All five hires will be illegal immigrants from Nigeria and somewhere in the Caribbean, Because they know how bribes work.

It will not matter if they just go after airbnb. Several years ago, the mcmansion in Bayside next to me did not sell. It was turned into an illegal hotel and I called 311 numerous times. No one ever showed up. In the meantime, vans came every night and dropped off 25 people at a time. The men would all hang out at the fence dividing our properties smoking non stop and then flicking the cigarettes onto my lawn. I could not open my windows all summer. They would all get take out food and then throw it on the ground outside the house where it would end up on my lawn and attract squirrels and mice. No enforcement.

The real estate agent who was selling the house, and who I complained to, told me it WAS NOT an illegal hotel because it was rented legally to the Chinese Tourist Board. Shutting down Airbnb will not solve the illegal hotel problem.

Wait a minute here. 10 million to hire 5 underproducing shit heads and a software package for 3 years. After 3 years the annual budget for this feather bedding nightmare will be incalculable. AndSarc is correct, it will never go away. No one will ever have the balls to even mention the idea of defunding it.

Ten million dollars of OUR money for 5 staffers? How about the DOB which we already pay for investigates the thousands of complaints instead of not showing up and stating no violation or no one answered the door, case closed?

How about putting for lottery winner's occupancy only clause in the lease for people who manage to win win hotly competitive lotteries for affordable housing?
