RIP Jamaica Renaissance: 2013-2015

George the Atheist reports that City Rib, a restaurant that was supposed to help spur the revitalization of Jamaica, has closed. Joe Moretti has more on its demise.

Not sure if it's closed for good. Sign says closed "until further notice". You ever see a sign like that before? What's going on there?

Sorry folks, Jamaica is not going anywhere.
I grew up there in the 1950's/60's and it's been downhill since then.
They've tried all kinds of things like getting rid of the BMT, but nothing changes.
It's the people, not the location.

When the crowd that has brought Brooklyn back to life get to Jamaica, then it will change.

This was just a matter of time. Politicians and so called revitalization organizations run out of steam fast in Jamaica. They know their lies eventually catch up to them. You want a nice, safe, hip neighborhood that does not need to put up a phony facade? Go to Forest Hills where Shake Shack is opening soon. No phony boloney there.

WAIT, Forest Hills is a hip neighborhood and you use a chain, Shake Shack as an example. There is nothing hip about Forest Hills (even though it is nice).

How much for just one rib?

Choose one.

Forest Hills is a civilized part of the city.

CityRib had really delicious food....and a comfortable atmosphere. Sad if it is not a temporary closure.

I went there once and wondered.."why is this place here?" Stood out like a sore thumb in a dumpy neighborhood.

By Jove, Watson, this gustatory predicament bears watching.

Perhaps a problem lies in those big glass windows. Imagine being a patron inside the place and having to look from the inside to the outside? As Joe Moretti might say, you're viewing the bottom-of-the-barrel populace sauntering by. You ever been on Parsons Boulevard when Jamaica High School, just a few blocks north, gets out? It's not a becalming event watching all those kids bopping down the boulevard. Enough to scare the living crap out of you. And you're watching this (plus the homeless and mentally ill) while trying to have a nice meal and some drinks?

Maybe CityRib is planning a removal of the windows and constructing more of an opaque facade?

When will Jamaica ever change its image? Drugs, crime, shootings, homeless shelters, garbage strewn streets and sidewalks, and liquor stores on every corner,......

It'll be "airport village" in a few years, at least the Sutphin/Archer area will be. There is nothing stopping that now.

There is a huge amount of student foot traffic daily from ~ 2 to 4 or so south on Parsons, passing this establishment.
But they are coming from Hillcrest HS, just north of Hillside Ave, not Jamaica HS.
There is enough regular havoc when this happens that cops are always posted on Parsons, but this should'nt be the main issue here, as the caravan occurs before CityRib opens for business.

I went to York College , after a very shot time began to dread the trip to Jamaica. Don't know what was worse, the classroom experience or the behavior of people on the streets. No where to eat decent food. All ghetto choices. McDonald's and Wendy's the safest bets comparing it to the filthy Caribbean places. All the good stores are gone, well there are a couple of discount stores that are worth it, but the rest.... a scary place. One teenager at the College was getting her GED because the gang activity made her life unbearable.

What happened to the federal money that was poured into Jamaica? Did Malcolm Smith and Shirley Huntley get a piece of that pie or take the whole pie?
