LIC getting ugly pink sculpture

From LIC Post:

A large, pink sculpture that sparked considerable debate last year has been approved for installation on Jackson Avenue.

“Sunbather” by artist Ohad Meromi received final design approval from the Public Design Commission at an Oct. 26 meeting, according to the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA). It will be built at Jackson Avenue/43rd Avenue before the end of next year.

This is a blown up version of a 5 years old's afternoon with playdough. I'd like to hear the thoughts of weary immigrants on the E train at 6 AM about their tax dollars being spent on this by the appointees of the Democrats they help put in office.

1/2 million for this - gee, I hope that its not going to be the target of 'art' (wink)

a few years of salt from snow removal and sunlight will render it - well - less than pretty.

isn't it great that they put in monuments like this while they systematically tear down all the real historic landmarks in the community - Elks Hall, Queens Co Bank, etc.

What was that dumbass doctor's name who went on a foodie sojourn in brooklyn and manhattan last year? because his name should be under it.

We got a bunch of lame Banksy imitators in this town, that's what this thing and any ugly mural that goes up these days seems to me.

speaking of landmarks, though not one. they put up this hack artwork and tear down an actual artistic mecca like 5 pointz.

Jesus fucking christ how much does the community have to say "fuck no' before anyone listens?

You made the elected officials the only game in town. Pissed? Then change it.

Next question.

"artistic mecca like 5 pointz"

you're kidding right? that place was an eyesore where vandalism gets coined as "art"

this city is going to hell in a hand basket.

How about substituting a big Gumby figure instead.
At least Gumby has a reputation of authenticity...LOL!

This shall be the idol of all the empty headed, easily fooled, hipsters of LIC.
Imagine an enclave of wannabee artistes kneeling to pray to this pink diety ?
Art farts trust babies who wouldn't know a bonafide artwork from a joke.
Chicago, at least, has a fine Picasso sculpture. LIC, in this case, gets exactly what it deserves.
I'd like to know WTF the arts commission got in bribe money to approve this stinky pinky.
Maybe the artist exchanged sexual favors with one of the old desicated commissioners.
Oh, those creative juices!

you know who is to blame for this to happen -- our counselman JVB - this is his territory -

How the heck can they justify wasting our tax dollars on such an eyesore?

I'm all for public art, but for that sort of money we shouldn't be getting something so hideous. For that sort of money, we could have dozens of murals painted on dozens of ugly graffitied walls instead.
