149th St Bridge may actually be repaired soon

From the Queens Chronicle:

Officials announced Thursday that the long-awaited reconstruction of the 149th Street Bridge in Flushing will soon begin.

The deck on the newly built but unsafe bridge needs replacing, and that will cost the city $1.6 million, Department of Transportation Queens Borough Commissioner Nicole Garcia said Thursday.

In the meantime, while the city is chipping in those additional costs, it is also suing Gandhi Engineering, the firm responsible for what Garcia referred to as the bridge’s “poor design,” and is hoping to retrieve back $4.2 million.

Perfetto Contracting Co. has been selected as the new contractor, and the preliminary work like applying for permits is set to start Nov. 30, Garcia said.

Yes, now that it's almost winter and freezing temperatures will soon be upon us, it's perfect time to start a major construction project...

So what assets does an engineering firm have?
A few computers, printers, etc..

That does not add up to 4 plus million dollars.

That is our wonderful city, spend a million dollars on lawyers to get a 4 million dollar judgement, collecting and get nothing from a bankrupted, closed corporation...

One would think that the City would require that engineering firms, especially those that do work for the City, carry errors and omissions or completed operations insurance. Naah, maybe that's unnecessary. What do you tax payers think?

Yey! That's for If and when it really does begin. Its only been 3 yrs and 7 months to date, And counting. According to the 2 permits the contractor was/is unicorn Construction Enterprises. If in fact the current contractor is Perfetto Contracting Co., as of Dec 3 I see no permits on NYC DOT active street construction permits site.

Anon 1: Ever read an article before commenting? They're not starting the project in winter.

Reading is fundamental, idiot.
