Hipster hangout vacates premises
Want a good laugh? A tipster tells me that Roberta's, of overrated Bushwick pizza fame (not to mention pizza in lieu of paid internship infamy), opened a food stand in Rockaway, but it was recently shut down. Did they have permits to operate at the 189 Beach 96th Street location, which was the front yard of a derelict residential property? Did SLA or DOH shut the operation down? The details are sketchy. Roberta's never officially announced their opening, never responded to media requests about the opening and their website has absolutely no mention of the new - and now defunct - location.

Ya can't make these things up. Unbelievable!
Not sure, but it may have had something to do with the fact that they allowed folks to consume alcohol there that was purchased on the beach.
it was probably on twitter and facebook
Starting a business isn't easy, but the permits and licensing are necessary.
Unless you're a five-year-old, you can't just open a food stand on a sidewalk.
When the city moves on this, they can't padlock it, do they just take the whole thing away in a truck?

but that's the mindset of generation gentrification, these people really think they own this town acting like overgrown spoiled brats.
To be so brazen to attempt to open up because rockaway is still struggling to recuperate is insulting.those creeps at roberta's just assume that the town needs business so bad that people will look the other way.
this isn't the only one, they just got caught and are cynical enough to think that this will give them undeserved publicity.there have been stories of cafe's opening up in brooklyn(of course)that don't even have names, and I have seen these stupid idiots congregating in front of shacks in rockaway, probably posing as clubs or art galleries that can only be heard via social networking.
kudos to the townsfolk who dropped dime on those frauds,I can only imagine how obnoxious and drunk their customers were being.
the creeps who own and make that shitty pizza also own rippers,a bullshit artisan bbq joint, they also serve beer out in the open on the boardwalk.why someone would name a place after loud long wet farts is beyond me.
die gentrfying scum
People think that they can come to Rockaway and do what ever they want.
Here's the one mention I found of this happening. You'd think all the bloggers that creamed their jeans over the thought of Roberta's in Rockaway would have covered it.
