DeBlasio and Katz didn't dump donor of library board

From the NY Post:

Mayor de Blasio and Borough President Melinda Katz spared only one Thomas Galante backer when they axed eight other trustees who had supported the disgraced Queens Public Library honcho — and it turns out that lucky survivor has ties to both pols.

De Blasio and Katz didn’t lay a finger on Mary Ann Mattone, 66, who happens to be the wife of developer Joseph Mattone, and whose family has donated tens of thousands of dollars to Democratic races, including those of Katz and Hizzoner.

Mattone’s son, Carl, 55, even headlined a Katz fund-raiser in Douglaston, Queens, this summer.

But while her eight fellow pro-Galante trustees were publicly ousted two weeks ago, Mattone, a mayoral appointee, was able to lay low on the troubled board until Tuesday, when she quietly resigned directly to de Blasio.

Mattone stepped down so quietly, in fact, that a board spokeswoman was still unaware of her resignation Wednesday, until told of it by a reporter.

This is the epitome of slimy Queens Political Crap.

The ordure was about to hit the fan and cover de Blasio and Katz with the noxious spray.

Watch, Ms. Mattone will be appointed to another position soon that will attract minimal media attention. The insiders take care of their own.

Got that right - looks like lots of plastic in that photo but the hair screams 1968 which is probably the last time she had a fresh idea.

As someone said, she looks like a person you would see in a Walmart in New Jersey - in Queens she is part of the 'elite'.

Gives you an idea as to why Queens is the way it is.

Isn't she the one who was specially flown in to break the tie vote about putting Galante on leave? She would then be even more deserving of removal. Definitely smells.

True. But remember, Mattone is there as a representative for one of the major dem donors in the borough. She's on that committee/board not to think but to report back to her family.

Are there any Republicans on the board?

Hey, it's Queens. It's all about the money. These politicians don't care about the person's credentials, just how much money will be pumped into their coffers so they can get elected over and over again. It stinks, but this is how business is done in New York. It's political prostitution.

No, that was Terri Mangino, who had been on the Board since 1972. Mangino is one of those who was removed by Katz.

Canon Dougald Maclean, the rector of St. George's Episcopal Church in Flushing, had also been a member of the library's Board for decades until his death in 2000. But even though I wouldn't have questioned his integrity, no one should have lifetime appointments - there has to be term limits, and accountability.

And check out the Mattone relationship with the Cuomo's.
Quite cozy.

++++

True enough, but every colossus has its Achilles Heel and for these people its their public persona. We can continue to hoot with glee at pointing out their paper thin credentials and their shoveling buckets of money into the nincompoops that pass for elected officials lately.

That behavior makes them less and less effective and piece by piece pries their fingers from the throat of our government.

Lets have fun. Lets hoot with glee. Lets all put a smirk on our faces everytime one of these jerks walk into a room with their puppy dog pol on a leash.

Even the thickest-skin lowest-voltage among them will sooner or later run howling for the exits.

Canon Dougald Maclean! Yes, that is right. He was part of the library board.

Now there is an old name, who along with the Kupferbergs and the borough historian, managed to bring suit to overturn an elected board at Bowne House.

The museum’s board was discussing launching a probe into a possible 'donation' to the library of the Jacob Titus Bowne Collection – was it part of the Bowne House collection? – did it end up as someone else's tax write-off?

They won because the paramount focus was to protect reputations at the cost of the institution and the community.

That organization certainly was never the same after that action. Good work civic leaders!

Look at Bowne House today - a shadow of its self. It took decades to get on the capital budget train and will take a few more decades to get to the station.

Look at the cost to the rest of us. Exhibit A on why Queens needs a complete purge in leadership - across the board.

A purge, sure, but not quite across the board. Katz is the one cleaning up the library mess. She fired six recalcitrant trustees and wrote the law reforming the library.

She couldn't remove Mattone if she wanted to because she was a mayoral appointee, so only de Blasio could dump her.

Oh, and she's saving the damn pavilion too.

a nyc gov. comptroller's office wanted to audit the library system.

a fishing expedition or a claim of corruption ?

city, state federal prosecuters have enourmous power and taxpayer $$$$, in order to indict their enemies.

eg. Dem. Eric Holder's U.S.D.O.J., who indicted and tried former Sen. Ted Stevens (R) of Alaska. his reputation was ruined and he lost his senate seat.
the courts determined that the fed prosecuters had hidden discovery evidence that would have dismissed the charges.

Holder's prosecuters were given a shot suspension and still work for the D.O.J.

a book has been written about the situation.

(tried posting something like this earlier but maybe it didn't go through)

Purge, yes, but not across the board. Katz is the one cleaning up the library board. She couldn't have fired Mattone even if she wanted to because Mattone was a mayoral appointee. It was Katz who wrote the library reform bill.

When she's done cleaning up the library, watch her clean up the pavilion.

FYI, the Mayor has appointed Jukay Hsu to the library's Board.
