Because what Queens really needs is more strip malls

From The Forum:

A Forest Hills real estate developer mapped out plans for a new shopping center in Ozone Park.

The site, located at the intersection of Cross Bay Bouelvard and North Conduit Avenue, will soon house a one-story plaza with up to 10 tenants, developer Platinum Realty said. Work on the site was expected to be finished by Dec. 1.

Potential tenants at the site included a new supermarket among other community establishments, Platinum Realty said. No official tenants have been announced so far.

From the Queens Courier:

Work on a two-story mall in Fresh Meadows on 164th Street is weeks away from completion, according to the owner J&H Management Corp.

About four years ago, former Councilman James Gennaro assisted in changing the zoning of the lot to commercial to clear the way for the shopping center.

J&H, which filed to demolish the auto repair shop on the lot in 2012, started construction last year and was expecting the shopping center to be completed in the spring. The more than 13,000 square-foot retail mall will have 13 tenants and 38 parking spots.

Oh gee, another freaking strip mall. I bet it even has a pharmacy when we really need a supermarket and not a kosher supermarket. It'll just be another crappy strip mall with a pharmacy anchor, maybe a bank, a crappy fast food place and a bunch of offices or stores that no one goes into but somehow stays afloat because it's a front of organized crime.

Make sure they have much needed medical offices!

Strip malls do no business. Theres many strip malls on northern Blvd That don't do much business at all. The stores in them are constantly opening up and closing down again so if northern Blvd strip malls don't get much business what makes them think that one located here will?

And what's wrong with a kosher supermarket? Oh, right.

Only 38 spaces for thirteen businesses?

Guess they are expecting booming business, huh.

Years ago there was an old house and a large yard with big trees on that spot that was empty for a long time until it was knocked down. Does anyone have a photo.
The stores might do well after all those homes that were built nearby.

The 4 story mall on Lefferts and Hillside, opened about 9 months now still has only Dunkin Dounuts, Taiekwando, and 99 cents store.
Speaking of dollar stores, there are about 10 of them between Lefferts (119 st) and 111 st. How do they exist so close to eachother and sell alot of the same stuff? New commercial / residential building going up on the corner of Jamaica ave and 114 st is going to have another dollar store.
I shop at these stores and get some good things there. Some of the stuff is crap. Same could be said of home depot or amazom.com
Still amazed at the dollar store density.

Speaking of organized crime, ya got a KeyFood down the street where tractor trailers unloading their wares during the morning rush hour screw up the traffic on 164th for hours.

I think the 164th street strip mall will do good because of the foot traffic from the Elechester apartments.

The 99 cent stores are money laundering fronts! It seems as though 75% of all the businesses in Flooshing are fronts - they do no business!

There's another one of these pieces of crap opening n Rockaway Blvd, near 106 St. It will have a Burger King, Subway, Deals Discount, T Mobile, and something else.
The tiny parking area in front has only 15 spots! And the curb cuts for the lot provide only room for just one car to go in or out at a time. How was this "strip mall", and all the others approved by the city? DOB? DOT? FDNY? Community Board?....
