Illegal cabs take tourists for a ride

From CBS 2:

CBS 2 sent an employee into Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy Airport Wednesday with a small camera. Seasoned travelers said they are hustled by illegal livery drivers quite frequently.

“You always see them waiting for people to come out — people who don’t speak English that they can con,” Jeannie Stiles said.

Tuesday night, 37-year-old livery driver Bhupinder Singh offered a family a ride, which was illegal. Not knowing, they got in.

Right after the car pulled away, Port Authority officers in an unmarked car tried to pull it over.

Police had been watching Singh, who had been busted five times at JFK. When police tried to stop him, Singh allegedly trapped the family in the car. With police in pursuit, 17-year-old Aldo Sosa, who was in the front seat, grabbed the steering wheel and the car eventually crashed into a guard rail.

Once the car crashed, Singh was arrested. However, the question remains: Why isn’t there more enforcement against such drivers?

Am starting to detect a trend.

More vibrant diversity = more crime.

They were busting a guy who has been busted five times before. And they end the story with "why isn't there more enforcement against such drivers?"
Typical garbage reporting.

There are huge posters warning traveler about this very scam, they're in several languages (But that presupposes one can read) Also there are TLC agents in the taxi area. The mutant cabdrivers who offer rides have been reported time after time. I think the TLC guy's are ripe for an investigation. I've seen this happen right under the agents noses.

No teeth and worse the city does not enforce TLC black cars in Queens who solicit riders at bus stops - illegally.

I was just at JFK and was approached by three guys at the taxi stand offering a "taxi." Those from NYC know these aren't taxis, but out-of-towners don't. The woman working the taxi stand yelled out "Those aren't taxis!" I've never seen them do anything before, so I appreciated her saying something.

I hope Singh enjoys jail. He jumped right from 'operating an illegal taxi' to kidnapping and evading arrest. Smooth. Real smooth.

All the mayor has to do is give the order to enforce the laws already on the books.
Arrest them, ticket them, impound and sell the cars being use to commit these crimes under forfeiture

For some reason the mayor WONT these illegal cabbies. Most all are Islamic's from terrorist country's many untraceable using fake names BTW

Screw that. I'm a New Yorker and if I'm flying back to JFK and that freakin taxi line winds around the block, you bet your a$$ I'm going to take advantage of a livery.
Much ado about nothing.
