The no-show council members

From the Daily News:

City council members are paid more than $100,000 to represent New Yorkers - but some often don't show up.

Councilman Charles Barron missed 28% of Council meeting and hearings he was supposed to attend in the last fiscal year.

Larry Seabrook (D-Bronx) missed 27% while under indictment on fraud charges, and Council Majority Leader Joel Rivera missed 19%, records show.

Barron, who missed 34 of 121 hearings and meetings last fiscal year, defended his record.

"I have perfect attendance in my community," the Brooklyn Democrat said. "You don't get your attendance checked on going to crises in the community when people are shot and killed."

Seabrook - awaiting trial on federal corruption charges - missed 32 of 118 hearings. He could not be reached.

Other Council members had personal reasons including James Gennaro (D-Queens), who had the third worst attendance. He is the primary caregiver for a family member with a chronic medical condition.

Tony Avella and Charles Barron are the only two NYC council members ever to stand up against Mayor Bloomberg ! So Barron's attendance is not 100%. Better that then being a lap dog for Hizzoner.

"Phony" and "Chuckie"....
a veritable army of 2 career politicians....LOL!

What legislation did they get passed during their tenure that benefited their districts?

That's what it's all about!

Oh, I can also pass a lot of wind that never makes it into law!

These ass-holes were elected by the people to represent them at City Hall. Not to be in photo-ops in the district.

That's great Charlie, but that's not what why you're getting a six-tax-payer-figure per year salary. I work for government too. But I only get paid for doing my job, not making up my portfolio as I go along.

It's disgusting how public sector workers are getting paid more then most private sector workers. It's also disgusting how, out of all public sector workers those in the military hardly get paid anything when compared to politicians. The fact of scarcity should still be no excuse for politicians to be paid so much.

does any new yorker remember what happened to save many american lives on this day,8/6/1945 ?

yes, we prevented the deaths of many American soldiers, sailors and Marines by nuking Japan.
We also saved a lot of Japanese.
Odds are casualties from an invasion of Japan would have been 500K dead.

How ironic....
and now the Japanese are nuking themselves.

Their nuke plant is still leaking and spreading radiation towards California.

Get my drift?

Anon No. 7:

Yes. And it was the same thing that happened three days later.

And all credit to President Harry S. Truman for making the decision to take the action that, in the end, saved a lot of lives (for once, I agree with ew-3). Truman made the decision and never regretted it for a minute.

A lot of people were heading towards Japan on ships at that point. A lot of them weren't coming back.

I know for a fact that Charles Barron is regularly attending court, funerals, protests and community mettings to support his constituents ... but i dont know about the others.

Charles Barron is the farthest thing from a career politician. Career politicians don't rock the boat like he does. Even if he stands against everything the Mario Procaccino voters stood for, he at least stands for something other than his own career and wallet.
