How did DSNY not notice this?

Remember those 2 WPIX news stories about the junked cars on Flushing Avenue? I found out this is what preceded them...

Mr. Holden;

I received the following email from DSNY:

"On Friday March 25th Supv Ohanlon of Sanitation District Queens West 5 visited American Auto and found area clean, with no cars illegally parked. He also spoke to owner and instructed him to keep area clean. Local District Supervisions will monitor the location."

Should you need anything further do not hestitate to contact me.

Dear Mr. Dale,

I visited Flushing Avenue (near 59th St) with Tony Nunziato yesterday (March 30th, about 1pm) and found quite the opposite of what DSNY reported (below). Since I don't expect you to take my word on the mess at Flushing Avenue nor do I expect you to take the word of the many residents who have been complaining about the situation for years, I'm once again submitting photographic evidence of the illegal conditions there.

The streets are filled with wrecked autos, many without license plates. American Collision repair vehicles are parked on the sidewalk on a daily basis and their tow trucks are actually blocking a street, most of the time during overnight hours.

American Collision is also still parking their trucks and wrecks on the island triangle there.

Councilwoman Crowley's office and the Mayor's Community Affairs Unit promised back in 2009 to address the situation. The residents are still waiting.

Who's payroll is supervisor Ohanlon on ?
These people are paying somebody ate the DOS off for tips about when the inspector is showing up
This city government needs the feds to give it a good enema.

members of the DSNY would NEVER lie.

especially when the snow is not shoveled at xmas time.

Agencies need a thorough clean-up. We see the same thing over, and over, and over. Not just DSNY, but everywhere. What gets me is the audacity of these guys, in the face of photos, repeated complaints, council members... what does it take? Fire the Agency heads who support this. Fire the inspectors who lie.

We have a similar situation with Sonny's Auto Collision on Atlantic Avenue (106-107 Streets). Complaints have been made for years, but we, too, get the same old "no violation observed" bs. Is it apathy? Corruption? Complacency? Incompetence? All of the above?

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

What do you expect when you live across the street from an industrial area. Don't worry, Bloomturd will probably declare the area blighted soon anyway and clean it up for you after he takes your property.

Seems like a very industrial area. I wouldn't park my car there.
Do people actually live around there?

The building housing the body shop was a donut factory thru the mid 1970's which supplied catering trucks and such...would go there after Mass on Sundays; they'd pull the chocolate donuts right off the conveyor belt and make you up a box (75 cents a dozen). Kids always got a free one.

"Do people really live around industrial areas?" You MUST be from Manhattan.

What doesn't make sense is that the fines for these violations would be essentially free money for the city.
These neighborhoods have had businesses that didn't park cars on the sidewalk, use the local residential streets as their "garage". So if we talking "expectations", when these collision shops opened up did they expect the residents in the community to accommodate their vehicle storage needs?

check out 23 street from the former queensboro bridge northbound in l.i.c..

driving on it is an obstacle course and walking on sidewalks is difficult for the parked cars.

'walking on sidewalks is difficult for the parked cars'

It depends on how you train them.

Syntax, man, syntax.

Syntax. Isn't that what we pay on alcohol and tobacco?

I notice there are no complaints about 69th Street and Metro. Seems like the same thing everyday all up 69th Street. Why do we call out this particular auto shop and not the other ones in the neighborhood doing the same thing?

I think your question should be why is sanitation not enforcing the law anywhere in the district?

RE: the fatal VW accident exiting the former queensboro bridge to bridge plaza.

i see that the portable concrete dividers guiding motorists to the local streets have been rearranged and straightened.
one section is of concern because of the paint stains from cars that have sideswiped it exiting the bridge.

with no alcohol citing by the n.y.p.d.,it is possible that a law suit is in the future and you know who pays ? you do.

the construction project costing $37 million(federal funds) and $6miliion(n.y.c.funds),your taxes, will provide safety for bicyclists and pedestrians.
one is now dead, how many more will there be at this danger spot?

Why do you need sanitation enforcement. Shouldn't traffic enforcement be able to address this? Daily tickets for equipment violations should be enough to solve the problem.

Duh, it's their job to tag and tow vehicles without plates, and issue summonses for sidewalk obstructions. Did you view the photos?

DSNY supervisor O'Hanlon conveniently found nothing wrong with this picture. DOI are you listening?

Some of these supervisors are making $140k+ to sit in corner offices .Look it up it is public record. No wonder the taxes are always going up and the city is broke.
