Interesting tidbit - Ft Tilden housed the Nike-Hercules missile during the cold war. They were armed with nuclear weapons. Imagine nuclear bombs deing delivered via the Belt Parkway. Now NYC is so anti-nuke, they won't even permit nuclear powered naval vessels in port. Even the Japanese let us homeport them in Japan.
