Back in the day the nice German guy at Starr pretzel factory (Starr and Knickerbocker) would let us get them straight off the conveyor belt as they left the ovens at
They were 5 cents each
We all had little money so on Sundays my grandfather, uncle and I would fill these big gutted baby carriages up and sell them at St.Abolisius church on Sunday.
Sometimes the pretzels were still hot
I think they were a bag of 5 for a dollar
I grew up on Palmetto and Cypress in the late 50’s and 60’s. When I was still in grammar school (St Brigid) we would go to the Starr street pretzel factory to buy in bulk and sell. They used to be 2 cents each to buy. I used to buy 75, put them in a laundry basket covered by towels. I would walk up to Myrtle and Seneca and sell for 5 cents each, 3 for a dime. Good memories of a time long gone.
