Bomb plot linked to foreign terrorists

From the Daily News:

A Connecticut man was being sought Monday in the failed plot to blow up a bomb-laden SUV in Times Square, sources said.

This "person of interest" bought the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder that was abandoned with the engine running - and with primitive, but potentially deadly payload in the rear - just two weeks ago, law enforcement and police sources told The Daily News.

Investigators aren't certain whether he is the same man who drove the rolling bomb to the Crossroads of the World, but he has not been seen by his girlfriend - and has not shown up at his home or job - since the frightening incident on Saturday night.

Detectives from the NYPD and FBI identified the SUV owner after tracking down the registration of the previous owner, who told investigators he'd sold the vehicle.

The mystery man met the seller through craigslist.com and paid $1,800 cash for the Pathfinder, the Daily News has learned.

The revelation came as:

- The News learned from sources that forensic evidence found in the Pathfinder points to the possibility that whoever prepared the car bomb has links to foreign terrorists.

- The White House uttered the T-word for the first time in connection with the failed plot that sent a scare through the city. "I would say that was intended to terrorize, and I would say that whomever did that would be categorized as a terrorist," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

- Vehicular traffic in and out of Manhattan slowed to a crawl as officers checked suspicious looking trucks entering the East River tunnels - and gave New Yorkers a jarring flashback to the tense days after the 9/11 attacks.

- Police were still trying to identify a man who was caught on tape moments after the SUV - packed with enough fuel, fertilizer and explosives to ignite a massive fireball - was abandoned in Times Square.

Time for the CIA, a car battery and some jumper cables.

Prior to going to Vietnam I went to SERE where you get to be waterboarded.
Trust me, it works. Everyone breaks.
And it's totally safe.

Wow - Obama's really keeping us safe.

What is wrong with this picture?

See something, say something. If the person manufacturing the bomb did it correctly, this story would have had another spin and the "heroes" created by the media would have met their demise. Thank goodness that the bomb failed but I now feel that the government's precautions are worth squat! Seeing a smiling Bloomturd on the local news bragging about the police force that he is reducing makes me want to puke.

Anon-just-before-me has a point. We really can't count on these terrorists staying stupid forever about how to blow up an SUV with shrapnel, propane and fertilizer. Some day, someone is going to do it right.

What does it matter? Hundreds killed or injured are innocent people who should not die no matter what the reason or cause!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To the person who made that comment...Did your parents have any children who were not born brain dead?

the W.T.C attack in 1993 was an act of war. the U.S.A was attacked by middle east ,islamo-fascists. the liberal-progressives did not retaliate properly until the second W.T.C. bombing and murdering of 3000 citizens. these same liberal-progressives then used the retaliation, by the U.S military, on Irag and the aL Qaeda to denounce the republican administration .

what a gang of Quislings,(see wikipedia ).these Quislings will enable many hundreds to be murdered again.
REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER......

the primary reason for a federal government is to protect the citizenry against military attack.
is obama, pelosi, reid do this , or are they destroying The Constitution ?

Nice sloppy screed there previous commenter. And Reagan called the Mujahadeen freedom fighters who became the Taliban. Look up your facts also and see that the Bath party (Saddaam) in Iraq was was supported and financed by British M15 and U.S. intelligence for the oil exports. Reagan was also involved with arming Sadaam. Maybe thats a threat to the Constitution and U.S. safety.

**Historians are deeply indebted to Joyce Battle’s Briefing Book at the National Security Archives, GWU, which presents key documents she sprung through FOIA requests, and which she analyzed for the first time.

Reagan sent Rumsfeld to Baghdad in December 1983. The National Security Archive has posted a brief video of his meeting with Hussein and the latter’s vice president and foreign minister, Tariq Aziz. Rumsfeld was to stress his close relationship with the U.S. president. The State Department summary of Rumsfeld’s meeting with Tariq Aziz stated that “the two agreed the U.S. and Iraq shared many common interests: peace in the Gulf, keeping Syria and Iran off balance and less influential, and promoting Egypt’s reintegration into the Arab world.” Aziz asked Rumsfeld to intervene with Washington’s friends to get them to stop selling arms to Iran. Increasing Iraq’s oil exports and a possible pipeline through Saudi Arabia occupied a portion of their conversation.

The State Department issued a press statement on March 5 1984 condemning Iraqi use of chemical weapons. This statement appears to have been Washingtons way of doing penance for its new alliance.

I see we have a new word in our vocabulary "Quislings"...AND a new slogan: "REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER"

Let me guess, Rash Limbaugh or Hanutty?

Sorry, I hate Limbaugh and friends, but "Quislings" is still an appropriate description of those who don't put the safety of our citizens first. No one wants a police state, but if bombs start going off left and right, it won't be business as usual in America.

That is really insulting to the hundreds of people who have been working on this case and have produced an arrest so soon.

Even in a police state such as IRAN and the former Soviet Union it wasn't possible to completely suppress domestic terrorism....in a free country such as ours the best you can do is infiltrate these groups and hope to catch the occasional lone wolf who goes it by himself.

This is a matter of religion poisoning people's minds and as such it will be a longterm war.

You are allowing stupid hatred for this administration to cloud whatever judgment you still have.

No, they're being called quislings because they are inviting millions of people without any kind of documentation or screening into this country and putting us at further risk. Bush did the same thing, and Clinton before him.

Has nothing to do with "hatred of this administration." This is a post-9/11 world. It's time to stop pretending it isn't now.

Actually I am an Obama supporter, nonetheless, I still know that the proper priority of the American Government is the protection of its citizens, not pandering to political correctness.

RE; nice sloppy creed and lino the liberal loyalass,

my comment STRESSES that like "Pearl Harbor",the U.S.A. was attacked on our home land in 1993 and 2001.
IT IS OUR GOVERNMENTS DUTY TO RETALIATE UNDER OUR "CONSTITUTION"

both of you have deliberately commented with a smoke screen. the marxists have a way of doing this .
they are masters of deceit.

the 1992 administration did little to nothing. the 2001 to 2008 administration did retaliate.

-Ignorant old men and computers...A bad combination.

"the 1992 administration did little to nothing. the 2001 to 2008 administration did retaliate."

Yeah, by embroiling us in a pointless war in Iraq (which I stupidly supported), our nation is now stuck there for the longterm because if we leave completely, it will fall victim to the roiling internal violence and become a base for terrorists.

Great job "W".

Q-C My closest friends are from Mexico and I know over two hundred of them by name. What "invited" them was WORK and MONEY.

The trickle turned torrent after Reagan's 1986 Amnesty. This was done at the behest of business interests intent on driving down labor costs with a flood of workers.

The underlying motive was disgracefully anti-American but hey, it's just business.

You know 200 people by name and consider them to be close friends? Um, okay....

I can count my close friends on one hand.

An open border is an invitation for trouble is all I was saying.

Um..NO there are two separate points here.

Of that two hundred plus (some are Salvidor, Guatemala etc) six are what I'd consider "close" I've been to their weddings, helped three buy homes (in Queens) and we talk almost every day. Some of them I've known for 20+ years.

"An open border is an invitation for trouble is all I was saying."

-On that you'll get no argument from me. But, remember -why- they are coming and the easiest way to stem the tide is to not hire them.

Yes exactly but is any administration going to stop large corporations like Tyson's chicken from bringing in illegal immigrants from mexico and Smithfield pork plant from actually trucking in immigrants from Mexico.

Yes you watch some rambling Glenn Beck deceit I see with your reaction and have a hard time with checking facts that bothers you so you scream "marxist".
No smoke screen there alarmist, just the fact that the Reagan endeared pres called the mujahadeen the freedom fighters against Russia when he knew the soon to be Taliban hated America so it was not wise to support them at all. Also check to see that in 1968 the British and U.S. supported the bath party which Saddaam headed was a bad idea and even as late as 1983 Saddaam was sold weapons. But I guess thats "marxist" to hear those facts for you.
