City Hall hospital rally at noon today cancelled

Tony Avella will hold a rally with employees of Mary Immaculate and St. John’s Hospitals, as well as local Queens residents, to urge Governor David Paterson and Mayor Bloomberg to provide the necessary funding to keep these hospitals open under the Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC).

If the hospitals close, approximately 2,500 workers would be forced out of a job and the health and safety of the community would be severely impacted. Both hospitals were recently ordered by the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) to stop accepting admitted patients on Saturday, February 14th, 2009.

Avella just canceled his rally at the request of hospital employees who would like to address a deteriorating situation at the hospital.

You mean Avella's having another City Hall rally and Jim Gennaro's still asleep at the wheel? Hey Jim, when you wake up, don't harass nurses about to lose their jobs over this, ok?

Leave "poor" Jim alone.

He's doing his Sri Chimnoy meditations or on a wicked bender after finally officially conceding to Senator Padavan!

And where's that toad Toby Stavisky...
holding Jim's hand after sonny boy Evan's Parkside screwed up?

What a bunch!

.....and just what will be achieved by another rally and political grandstanding? This issue of hospital closures should be brought to a national platform. I understand that the stimulus package has allocated millions of dollars to support New York public hospitals. GO! to Washington and demand that this money is used to convert these hospitals to a public hospital system....otherwise your local demands will fall on deaf ears.

Go to Washington? We have Washington right here - St. John's is in Boy Wonder Joe Crowley's district, if I am not mistaken.

What does Sri Chinmoy have to do with this? Please elevate the discourse, we have a serious issue at hand. This is not the time for ad hominem remarks.

Speaking of bullshitters....has anyone seen Malcolm Smith? You would think that the very least he would be available to alleviate the fears of the community regarding the loss of a major healthcare institution...and also help mitigate the fears of the 2500 employees who are about to be unemployed.

What a terrible shame to see what is happening to the people of Queens, and the staff of both these hospitals. Everyone just let us spin our wheels. The dirty hand was dealt a long time ago.All of the politicians got to grandstand, gave us their support and did nothing. We have been raped and sodomized!

I strongly believed that whoever will close Mary Immaculate Hospital are prejudiced individuals, because there's no way that the 2 nearby hospitals (Jamaica hospital & Queens General hospital) could serve this community. 2 factors, minority and poor neighborhood.

Who authorized the removal of bankruptcy materials?

I thought that Caritas is in bankruptcy. Why are we selling off office furniture to another healthcare corporation? Why was furniture taken out of St. John’s and delivered to Jamaica Hospital this week? Is Annette Hastings looking to secure her future employment? Did money change hands? Is the bankruptcy court aware of this? Is there a secrete warehouse (like during the St. Vincent’s bankruptcy and Joe’s closing) where valuable equipment is being hidden and stored? These questions need to be answered!
