Greenstreet Proposal Ignored

A few months ago, I sent a letter to Councilman David Weprin proposing that a traffic triangle in his district be transformed into a Greenstreets park. I have yet to hear from his office. If Houston and Allen Streets in Manhattan can receive new mall parks, why is Queens being ignored?

I proposed that it be named "Summit Triangle," because it is located near the highest point on 188th Street, and across the street from the private Summit School.

If the Parks Dep't is worried about finding volunteers to maintain this park, there is a school and a synagogue facing it. Maybe now Mr. Weprin will take notice.

Sergey my friend, you're relentless. You're also a stubborn busybody. I've personally posted at least three times on this blog what you should have done.
It's ironic how you want to have trees planted in every crevice of the earth but still waste paper writing to someone like Weprin with your woes.
Council members don't have to answer to anyone on these trivial matters. The folks at Queens Forestry on the other hand, the ones responsible for planting greenstreets in the first place, have to answer to the Parks Commissioner.
No one bother posting what a horrible tool he is - he's nevertheless the only person who'll have your request answered. You have to write to him.
Withing 2 weeks I had a response to my request - basically, it was a we'll see and there was a contact to call for details. Four months later 3 trees and some type of low grasses were planted in what was an asphalt corner of a City Parking lot in Astoria.
Like I posted about your last suggestion days ago, you're talking about a stripped piece of roadbed, not a built up, paved over triangle. Don't hold your breath, its DOT's call more than it would be Park's.

Why doesn't Sergey Kadinsky volunteer to take care of his proposed new park?

Sure, hand me a shovel, and I'll begin planting promptly. What's the address of the forestry dep't?

Ant is mistaken, Queens Forestry does not build, or plant Greenstreets. You must contact Central Forestry, and they will transfer you to the person who you will need to speak to.

That's right, one division handles all the boroughs.
I don't agree about calling though and think a letter to Commissioner, who will just forward it along to CF is a better way to do it. The request is tracked that way.
It sounds like Sergey likes writing letters so it shouldn't be a big deal.

Also, CC the Chief with the same letter. This way everyone is on the same page fairly quickly.

i love this idea but this blog is so abusive towards local elected officials and various other parties. why do you expect that anyone would listen to you or respond to your concerns and ideas?

Oh, contrare, it's the elected officials who are abusive toward their constituents. And by the way, they are required to listen to their bosses, who we are. It's their fucking job.
