The charred and blackened steeple of the First Reformed Church in College Point stands in mute testimony to the fire that raged through the church on Friday afternoon.
Funny, that is not the first church fire this year in Queens.
I am hearing more and more reports from groups that want to rent or use church space, that the mainline protestant churches are turning their backs on the communities, just as their message are emptying the pews and coffers (not an easy task in a nation that overwhelmingly considers itsself religous)
They are slowyly makeing themselves into development sites. Forget about landmarking now, after the fire.

I wonder if Parkside was able to return all of the kerosene and matches they bought once St. Saviours had been moved? Evan, we know you read this blog, perhaps you'd care to comment? Or maybe you're too busy looking in the mirror in astonishment at how much your face resembles an anus?

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt

Is it an officially designated municipal landmark?
Can the damage be repaired?
Many years ago Reverend Cameron
(I believe was his name) wanted to cover the church with aluminum siding!
The parishioners eventually told him,
"NO" !
