NYC School Construction Authority again trashes valuable public shade trees
Well known for their ability to trash, destroy and mutilate large and mature public shade trees on Board of Education properties across Queens, the NYC School Construction Authority- their engineers, architects and construction contractors have arrived in Middle Village to perform much of the same. The construction of Public School / Intermediate School 128 on 69th Place and Juniper Valley Road is lined by what was once 16 large spreading canopied trees thoughtfully planted for the benefit of the community some 60+ years ago. These trees have provided numerous benefits and services for the community.
While well aware of the need to protect and preserve public trees, the indifferent project engineer and his arborist had nearly two thirds of the vital leaf producing canopy unnecessarily removed.
Current construction and excavation also points to volumes of root bound soils adjacent to those trees irreversibly compacted and damaged. With another two years of construction till completion, these trees will likely never recover from the above and below ground impacts and will succumb to a slow declining health and a premature death as the SCA has shamefully inflicted upon our large invaluable shade trees elsewhere.

So, what else could they have done, move the trees and re-plant them somewhere else?
Who is in charge of the SCA?
Oh, yeah! Killer Commissar. The one who said he will PLANT a million trees.
He just never told anyone that he would first kill two million.
He thinks trees are pregnant employees. Kill 'em if you see 'em!
First, they could have pruned the trees correctly. Second, they could have worked a little carefully around the trees. Third, incorporate the trees into the project and consult someone with knowledge about tree care!!!
After they build the school they will plant more trees around it.
It's this little thing at the end of the contract called "landscaping".
Idiots.
Remember, those million trees are to be planted in the same communities that are landmarked or areas slated for new development.
Mr and Mrs Taxpayer, your hard earned money will be used not for your family but to provide services for others.
"Woody" gave me a woody.

Small trees will take years to grow to the stage where they can clean the environment as effectively as these mature ones.
Why would you think they could build around the trees? They are building a new school building, which is a good thing for the community. How do you know they won't plant new trees when the building is done?
So where are all these kids that are coming to live in these mega whopping condo units supposed to go to school--in the trees planted 60 years ago?? Be thankful they're building more schools instead of some developer getting his greedy hands on the property for yet another mega whopper condo.

Typical Queens thinking...how about not allowing the mega whopping condos to be built and cracking down on illegal apartments? Problem solved.
I think they could have had their cake and eat it too. Why not have the new schools WITH the 60 year old trees?
I think only an IDIOT would accept the planting of SMALL TREES in place of the large trees SCA is damaging
I see that Soviet block "architecture" has made a come back!
