Expanding Flushing, continued

Flushing has experienced unprecedented growth in the last several years, marked by grandiose projects such as the Flushing Commons and Flushing Town Center project, whose housing is largely geared towards higher income families...The western Flushing affordable housing proposal came as a response to months of sharp criticism from residents that housing costs in the area were skyrocketing.

Housing study nears finish

So Johnny Liu and pals are looking to rezone a manufacturing district near Flushing Meadows to allow for "affordable housing." They are unveiling their feasibility study on April 5th.

Councilman Tony Avella, Chair of the Zoning Subcommittee, doesn't believe this is a good idea:

"Flushing has already seen a tremendous amount of growth and how much more can you really get in that area," Avella said..."They're not zoning experts," he said. "A feasibility study from them I don't think is going to amount to much."

I doubt that Johnny would move his family into a house that sat on top of a toxic wasteland.
