A few months ago Austin Shafran filed the Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club questionnaire in which he was asked Do you support reducing the budget of the NYPD and if so, by how much?
This was his response:"Yes,
the reduction should be reflective of other agencies cuts and a
reassessment of what resources are needed to support a new NYPD
structure after the removal of many of its current responsibilities."
At a candidates forum on May 13th he was asked "Do you support reducing
the NYPD budget?" To which he responded "No." This contradicts the
questionnaire and at every other forum he has stated the same thing.
The
fact that he is endorsed by the Working Families Party who is all for
defunding the police shows that we have two sides to Austin, the one who
with certain unions and groups makes them believe he is a leftist and
the one In Public who makes the public believe that he is on the right
side of the issues. Also you will also see WFP made some
derogatory comments on twitter about the district and tagged Austin, who
did denounce the comments and the tweet was liked by the Hotel Trades
as well.
