Queens is burning again. It's a lithium ion battery again.

Eyewitness News

One person was killed and several others were injured in a house fire that broke out in Queens.

Officials say the heavy flames tore through the home on 89th Street in East Elmhurst at around 11 p.m. Friday.

As firefighters worked to put out the blaze, they found a man in his 60s unconscious on the second floor. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Some of the other residents were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Residents say an e-scooter could be to blame for the fire.

"I unplugged the scooter, I was on the first floor. As I'm putting cereal in a bowl, I heard an explosion, like gunfire. As I open the door to the second floor, those stairs were already on fire in seconds. It was a disaster," Jose Corona said.

Firefighters did pull a burnt scooter from the residence, but the official cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

ALL forms of stored energy are by DEFINITION, explosive, be they hydrocarbon, battery or nuclear.

Stop importing cheap crap from China.
Stop outsourcing tech jobs to India.

Stop selling all US technology to foreign countries.

The time has come for regulation of these bikes..too many fires

Dont charge a hot battery after you've been riding it for 25 miles....

Let’s ban those e-bikes. They’re killing too many people.
Ban guns and cars too, as they’re killing even more people.

This is what happens when you want to go all electric. Wait till the electric cars come and they explode in your driveway or garage when charging. These scooter fires are only the beginning of what is to come when they want us to go all electric. Stop the nonsense about it being environmentally safe. What are we doing with all these old batteries when they wear out. They are rotting in a landfill causing more havoc on the environment. Wake up this is only the beginning. Not they way to go!!!!

I said a tsunami of this would come as far back as 2 years ago and the this is still just beginning of the tsunami of fires to come.
This technology was rushed and not given enough time to test and perfect for the average dumb-ass users who wont or cant read the instructions and facts.
The company's that make these e-nut things also have no agreement with the consumer to sell them replacement battery's at an affordable cost every 3 years.
They all want some insane list price, ask anybody who owns an Apple laptop for example.
Result? The owners buy aftermarket, no UL approval, no RIOS certification nothing.

Aging cells in many scooters, electric automobiles are getting replaced with aftermarket cells. Most of these battery's have slightly different chemistry, thermistors and charging chips, the factory OEM charging systems don't track the temperature of the cells and alter the charging rate accordingly.
These EV battery's are actually lithium battery cells in series, eventually one cell goes bad, then 2 cells go bad, the battery max top voltage then drops. The owner thinks the battery is low needs charging, charges it more, and more often. Ignoring the usual 500 charge/discharge cycle limit expensive replacement.
The lifespan become significantly shorter with quick charging. Quick chargers really beat the shit out of all rechargeable battery's. They are all very bad, you get shorted cells.
Each shorted cell drops the battery maximum capacity by around 1.2 volts.
The battery design for EV does not allow cells to cause an open circuit, making the battery totally open dead. Li-On cells SHORT.
Since the maximum charging voltage can not be reached on a warn battery the charger thinks the battery is low and keeps charging, never reaching top off, trickle mode and shutting down.
Result: Red hot battery's about to short and burn like road flares

Imagine: If a scooter with a 40 amp hour battery can do this, imagine what an automobile with 10, 20X more stored energy 450 can do.
What you get is an arc furnace, you can drop the whole car in a swimming pool and it will continue to burn like a blow torch.

Well, it’s getting obvious to the Sheeple that electric isn’t the solution and gasoline isn’t the solution.
What’s obvious is that cities need to be redesigned. Better public transportation. Reduction in car sizes allowed in cities. New battery/fuel cell technology is needed, and fast.

Joe, great explanation! Yes, the entire electric vehicle movement is a gigantic con job and will never be able to replace the 280 million or so gas powered cars, and that's just in USA. There's not enough battery material in the entire world.

But the REAL goal is to make sure you don't have a car at all. "Shared mobility" will be your future: dial up a self-driving Uber that will take you where you're going, and the government will be able to track your every move, or prevent you from getting a ride at all because you're a racist, or whatever.
