South Ozone Park landlord engages in rental scam

From PIX11:

Samintra Boodram from Queens went to see the apartment at 117-20 Lincoln St. in South Ozone Park, Queens.

It’s in a multi-family house. She says a man who identified himself as Tony Bacchus, the landlord, showed her the three-bedroom unit.

It was obvious people were living in the apartment. The landlord told her the tenants lease was nearly up and urged her to put down a $2,000 security deposit. She did. A week later he asked for another $2,000 in cash for the first month’s rent. She paid that, too.

Sumintra says the landlord told her she could move in August 17, after he had fixed up the apartment. But she says he then stopped answering her calls and emails. She went to the house and says she heard voices inside the apartment, but no one would open the door.

“I called the police and the neighbors came out. Everybody was saying how he had been doing this to a lot of people,” says Sumintra.

First 2,000 for an Ozone Park apartment is ridiculous and a foreboding and disturbing sign that jackals like this Tony are taking advantage of overvalued market rate speculation and a recent and now deleted streeteasy report claiming that Queens rentals have gone up to 1,990

Second, how stupid is this maggot for pulling a grifter scheme in the comfort of his home and how the living hell does he get away with it? This is insane.

>They told her the apartment the landlord showed her was where he and his family lived. “The police said they can’t do anything. I have to go to landlord tenant court."

>She says the landlord would not open the door for the police.

How does this guy get away with this? Who is he paying off? Us ordinary people would have our door broken down, warrant or no, if we pulled something like this.

The fact that the current tenants have not called the police after being aware of this landlord doing this to other people is deplorable. That makes them accessories since they are well aware of the scam. As for the landlord, he should be put into a jail cell for fraud and larceny. I hope they arrest the landlord!

So the guy lives in the house? He's there right now? Call the Police. Would also be shame that when this gets out, his car or the house is vandalized, right? What a fool.

put money on this -
1. He's not the landlord
2. He's from Guyana or Trinidad.
3. He'll never be found.

What do you think the police would do?
Hint...nothing

And what kinda tough 'ddues' are you going to bring? Your dad? Your friend?
Will they bust him for you and risk of going to jail?
