There was a time (early 1950s) that Jamaica was a wonderful place. I remember that outside of Macy they had a place for dogs to get a drink of fresh water. All you need to do is study the history of the building that Gertz had. It was a wonderful medium to high scale department store. What has it become?
Jamaica has been the jungle since the late 60s. It looked as if the 90s had finally brought some civilizing influence; but no one should be surprised that the death of our local (and global) economy will drag it back to the bad old days. On a positive note, someone is doing amazing work at the ancient cemetery south of the LIRR near York College.
#6... you can't stand the message, can you? Jamaica 's deterioration is the result of multiculturalism and social justice ,forced on society by robbers of the taxpayers.
Commie Alinsky orders you to attack the messenger...
I remember as far back as the 60's. white teens being told by their parents to avoid "that jungle"At the northern terminus of the Q31,someone graffittied "Q31 to Africa".The more things change...
The video is about the trash/litter problem in Jamaica caused by people regardless of ethnicity or social status (I have seen white middle class men park their cars and toss out garbage from their vehicles onto the sidewalk/streets). It is also about city/community leaders and politicians who are not addressing or finding solutions to the problem and who have let so many issues in Jamaica fester for decades without doing anything. Harlem is a mixed neighborhood and you do not see this type of trash/litter problem to the degree that you see in Jamaica. Stop turning everything into a racial battleground, especially slanting this toward black people
"You really think that Harlem a mixed neighborhood? What brand of wine have you been drinking, Joe... and what was the last time YOU personally set foot uptown?"
I was in Harlem last Sunday, I visit there a lot as well as other neighborhoods in the 5 boroughs. Yes, Harlem is mixed (even though there are a majority of African Americans), obviously you have not been there lately.
yes, the harlem area is becoming home to "the interlopers" according to (Twana Brawley) Al Sharpton ,but one can not watch excellent basketball being played at the Rucker Park courts without being shot. See recent news aticles of three innocent people shot.
a second shooting was also reported in the parks area.
Social Justice does not work, Mr.Moretti.
i played B/B on the upper west side in the 1945-1952 period. there were problems playing in harlem, especially when we won, but no shootings and killings.
First off the video/article has nothing to do with Harlem, it has to do with Jamaica. Second no one is bullshitting anyone. All I said is even though Harlem is predominately black, it has become a mixed neighborhood (especially with whites) in the last 10 years. Period, that is all that was said and it is a fact. So I do not get what the issue is. Why do so many here always get off on tangents?

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt
The above organizations are recognized by Queens Crap as being beneficial to the city as a whole, by fighting to preserve the history and character of our neighborhoods. They are not connected to this website and the opinions presented here do not necessarily represent the positions of these organizations.

Jamaica is being ignored
because it's been on the down-low for decades
It's truly a sad state of affairs,
but you should have moved out long ago.
How much money was squandered over the years
by the Greater Jamaica Development Corp.
to "improve" the area and it really hasn't made
much difference.
C'mon...it will never be what it was...
it's gone with the wind.
BTW,
what was Carlisle Towrey's annual salary?
Geez...
even Flushing is better than living in Jamaica.
At least there is no danger of drive by shootings there.
Jamaica has become a destination of last resort.
