Burglary surge in Rockaway

From Fox 5:

The Rockaways have seen an increase of break-ins that have surged 119 percent in 2011.

That percentage is the worst crime increase in any neighborhood in the city through September 8 over the same period last year.

There has been no other area in the city that has seen a triple-digit increase in felonies.

How about the 61st precinct in Brighton Beach... I'd say 3 murders last year to 12 this year would be considered more than 200% increase... If my numbers serve me correctly that's a 300% increase... I love the investigation of these news reporters...

I think they mean felonies overall.

Brighton Beach murder increase?
Most likely Russian mob hits.

Now, Rockaway is located on the farthest outskirts of NYC.

It's a forgotten nabe and has been since "Playland" closed.

Do you think a portion of police protection will be pulled from Forest Hills Gardens (or other "fine" nabes)to patrol Rockaway?

Definitely not!

Time to keep a "gauge" under the bed and I don't mean a measuring device!

Percentages may show a large increase, but a look at the numbers in a manner differently than the NYPD does show that during fiscal year 2011 the 100th Pct had the 4th least amount of burglaries in the city. They had 89 for the entire year. What about the rest of us in the rest of the borough:
101 Pct 123, 102 Pct.355. 103 Pct. 277. 104 Pct. 419, 105 Pct. 423, 106 Pct. 306, 107 Pct. 275, 108 Pct, 263, 109 Pct. 437, 110 Pt. 289, 111 Pct. 224, 112 Pct. 139, 113 Pct. 463, 114 Pct. 553, 115 Pct. 281. Before we have a pity party for the poor 100 Pct let's realize a whole lot more of us are getting burgled up here on the mainland even though in some of the pcts percentages may be down. Betcha the 100 Pct has more cops in proportion to its number of residents that a whole lot of other areas in Queens do in proportion tho their populations too.

To the last poster you do realize that the 100 precinct covers a far smaller amount of territory and population than all of those precincts you just mentioned... The research the reporters did is very similar to the research you just did... Just skimmed off the top... If you saw how the small pop. that precinct covers and then look at the numbers you'll realize how bad that area still is... Look at the 113th for confirmation right now according to statistics they are on equal levels of crime with eachother and the 113th precinct which account for South Jamaica and the areas around it have registered about 2500 crimes this year as opposed to what 600 or 700 crimes by the 100th precinct... Again educated research... And to the second poster no they did not mean felonies overall they specifically mentioned burglaries which is one of the 7 felonious categories just like murder is... And the 61st precinct is Brighton Beach... Coney Island is the 60th... Can we please stop with the false information on here... Btw, 1st poster commenting again
