From the NY Post:
A holy war erupted yesterday at a Sikh temple in Queens -- where worshippers wielding swords and cricket bats interrupted a prayer session to attack their rivals in a vicious power struggle, police and witnesses said.
Rival factions at the Baba Makhan Shah Lobana Sikh Center in South Richmond Hill have been bickering for months over control, authorities and members said.
The dispute reached a bloody climax yesterday when the infighting turned violent, accompanied by screams, taunts and death threats.
The alleged attackers -- armed with at least one sword about 40 inches long, and another sword, according to a witness -- were part of the old guard that had been recently voted out of power but refused to accept the decision, even going to court to challenge the election.
Here's an update from the Daily News.

LOL...Sikh and you shall find...violence!
Mao Tse Tung was right..."Religion is poison"!
Religious competition...you know, like..."My god is better than your god"...is pure cyanide!
Where can I find a nice peaceful Taliban temple to worship in?
This place illegally closes 114 St every week and this is not the first fight in the place. Melees are common.
No wonder Jahn's and Salernos left Richmond Hill!
Build a Muslim Mosque right next door and watch the real riots begin.
Build a stadium and sell tickets.
Televise the Muslim VS Hindu religious wars that follow on cable.
I'm giving 7 to 1 odds against the Hindus.
What a borough! What a cesspool!
LOL...why can't we all just get along?
First off all these other commentaries are completely off base. The Sikh religion is a very peaceful religion. Like EVERY religion there are a few bad seeds, and lucky they were removed from this temple. The fact they the individuals did not accept the decision makes it a personal issue, and should not be associated with the Sikh religion. Sikhs by nature are not violent, but they are solider to protect their faith, as in every religion. For people to start name calling, and picking sides is completely bias, and racist. These individuals acted on their own personal agenda, and will be punished by the justice system for their actions. They brought shame to the ENTIRE Sikh community and religion.
Hardeep, this is Queens Crapper. Lots of racist, no class individuals that hide behind anonymous handles. All religions have bad seeds, we just hope the rest of the population does not judge us by them. Some will.
No JO, you are not Queens Crapper, I am. I happen to like Sikhs. I find the whole melee kind of funny. Cricket bats and swords? Now that's different.
"Hardeep". Sounds like a line from a porno film.
The question of whether we can all get along has been settled. We can't, we may as well admit it.
The goal now is containment.

What crappy camera work.
charge!!!
How many riots over in church on Easter Sunday? How many in temples over Passover? Religion is not poison, just the way some people practice it.
Thank you Hardeep. To the other commentators: There is nothing wrong with religion, just a few bad apples as mentioned. As for the comment insinuating that putting a Muslim and Hindu church will cause a riot, guess what, they are close to each other in that area and they get along just fine.
Queens is awesome that way.
At least the Sikhs are just fighting each other... unlike the Christians & the Muslims, who throughout the centuries have killed, tortured and enslaved people all over the world in the name of their God.
You obviously don't know your religious history very well. Sikhs were involved in religious wars with Hindus. And they only make up 0.39% of the world's population, so large scale wars would be impossible for them.
Here's more:
...during the Mughal rule of India (1556–1707), the emerging religion had strained relations with the ruling Mughals. Hindu Hill rajahs fought frequent battles against Guru Gobind Singh because they were largely opposed to Guru Gobind Singh's casteless principles of religion. Prominent Sikh Gurus were killed by Mughals for opposing Mughal persecution of minority religious communities. Subsequently, Sikhism militarized to oppose Mughal hegemony.
The months leading up to the partition of India in 1947, were marked by heavy conflict in the Punjab between Sikh and Muslims.
what can i say.....FUKIN AWESOME!!
"You obviously don't know your religious history very well. Sikhs were involved in religious wars with Hindus. And they only make up 0.39% of the world's population, so large scale wars would be impossible for them."
So the Sikhs were also like the Christians & the Muslims, who throughout the centuries have killed, tortured and enslaved people all over the world in the name of their God? Shame on me, I wrongly thought it was against the Sikh religion to forcibly convert others.
"Just gimmy that good ole time religion."
This isn't about Christians or Muslims and what they have done in the past. It's about Sikhs going apeshit and the NYPD getting involved. Why can't you all seem to stay focused?
LMAO Now thats entertainment.
Nice touch with the cricket bat and that dude going gangsta on his bandanna before kicking some ass. But in all, kinda lame compared to the classy riot at this church: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEpZJnydbj8&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Sikhs a cool. If all of our children were raised with Sikh values, our city and world would be a better place. Just look it up and you'll see. So nobody got hurt. Just some hot air and a big show.
So the Sikhs were also like the Christians & the Muslims, who throughout the centuries have killed, tortured and enslaved people all over the world in the name of their God?

Bingo. The only thng you left out is that Christianity evolved and matured.
So the Sikhs were also like the Christians & the Muslims, who throughout the centuries have killed, tortured and enslaved people all over the world in the name of their God?

This is bull. Sikhs have never used violence to convert or enslave people. Christianity, Islam and Scientology are the only religions that try to convert others.
"So the Sikhs were also like the Christians & the Muslims, who throughout the centuries have killed, tortured and enslaved people all over the world in the name of their God? Shame on me, I wrongly thought it was against the Sikh religion to forcibly convert others."
I'm sorry. thats absolutely wrong. Sikhs have never used violence OR ANY OTHER MEANS to convert others. As for the violence in Sikh history, it was for defense of their people and other Hindus who were suppressed under Mughal rule. In fact, there are many Sikh martyrs who have sacrificed their own lives to save other "low-caste" or other religious folk.
You think the Christian and Muslim wars were about converting non-believers? It was about politics, power and money.
You folks really need to learn your history.
all i can say is wht they did in da gurudwara is wrong n shame on them. as for the ones who r leavin stupid comments, i have nothin to say cuz this is nt new, u hear everyday abt a preist or preacher doin this or tht in church.
