Pizza man assaulted in Jackson Heights

From the Daily News:

A pizza deliveryman was fighting for his life after he was set up for a robbery in Queens early Friday and hit so hard in the skull with a baseball bat that the thud was heard six floors above, police sources said.

Victor Mejia de los Santos, a 28-year-old Mexican immigrant, never had a chance, police said.

He was attacked from behind by Jorge Paret, 28, and Anardo Battista, 23, about 12:05 a.m. Friday on 75th St. near 34th Ave. in Jackson Heights, after showing up with a pizza the suspects had ordered as a ruse, sources said.

Paret cracked de los Santos over the head, fracturing his skull, then he and his accomplice pummeled the helpless man, kicking and punching him before fleeing with the scooter he used to make his deliveries, sources said.

The suspects were nabbed shortly after the attack, and police recovered the scooter and three mountain bikes that also apparently had been stolen. Each suspect blamed the other, sources said.

De los Santos underwent emergency brain surgery and is in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital Center, where his wife, Candelaria Rodriguez, 22, and other relatives held vigil Friday night.

Doctors have told the family half of de los Santos' body could remain paralyzed.

De los Santos bought the electric scooter six months ago to make more money delivering, his uncle Mayolo Rodriguez told The Daily News.

Family said de los Santos worked at the pizza store since arriving in the U.S.

"He liked to work a lot. He didn't get drunk, nothing like that," said his uncle. "He said it was a nice place, he liked to work there."

I hope these 2 "mutant savages" get beaten on a regular basis in state prison, most likely will serve 25 to life hopefully.

Food delivery people working at night in certain parts of NYC have it
really bad, I wonder if these 2 mutants ever worked a day in their pathetic lives.....

So sad. My prayer goes to the victim and his family.

This is a heinous crime and that the 2 accused be deported after being convicted.

Things are getting worse. Crime is out of control, contrary to what Bloomberg wants us to think.

Disgusting, My father has owned a pizzeria in Jackson Heights for the past 30 years. While I was once robbed for my pie with a screwdriver to my neck, never have I heard of anything so horrid.

This poor guy is working 12 hour days minimum in all types of weather to support his family and this is what he deserves?

Shame on those that commited this act and may they get what they deserve.

Not deported after convicted for they will then be free and possibley sneak back in. Let them serve prison here. Its worth the cost to make sure they pay.

Let us see if this type of robbery becomes fashionable again...and then we call BS on the mayor's official crime statistics....

For a crime of this nature, why don't we have "Public Humiliation Acts?" Let everyone know the true polarity of such a brazen assaault. Perhaps the media should follow up on the impact this crime has generated upon Ourtown, USA.

Here we go again with all the comments about deporting the perps. How do any of you even know they are not citizens?

If anything it is the victim whose profile suggests he probably doesn't have papers.

And so what?

I just hope he gets better.

Uh oh. I suspect a dearth of comments.

See, the victim may have been an illegal immigrant who was working hard to make a living for himself and his family. But since those people are responsible for all of our ills, then his beating should b celebrated.

But considering it's a tad uncouth to bash poor people who got the shit beat out of them for no reason, the usual commenters will probably be content to sit this one out.

After all, the thought that these people are just human beings trying to earn an honest living in less-than-ideal circumstances is too uncomfortable of a truth to deal with on this lovely Saturday.

It's not an honest living unless you pay taxes on it.

Nothing in this article said the victim was illegal.

Please show me where anyone on this blog ever said someone who gets the shit beat out of him deserves it if he is illegal.

You can't.

Bye, troll.

The Western Queens Gazette is proudly announcing this week that crime is down.

Have to sell the overpriced condos now...

The New York Post has reported that the victim is a legal immigrant.

Due Frankys. They are accepting contributions for him after people asked how they could get money to him.

There is also a bank account at the local TD Bank branch, that was set up to receive contributions to help this poor man and his family.

The office of Daniel Dromm has details.

I resided on 35th Avenue in the low 70's in the early 1980's. Still and all, compared to the South Bronx and East New York, Brooklyn, it remains like a paradise.

I also wonder who raised the animals that did this. Did they grow up feasting on Snickers Bars for breakfast and having sex as 9 year olds.

I'm certain if their old men were around to kick their butts in when they got ornery, they probably would be in college and working for their money.

They are Dominican, i Know Arnando. They go around with a big ego and thug mentality, scheming on everyone they can. He comes up to you with a smile acting like he is you're friend and then robs you blind when you give him trust. That is normal for Dominican mentality, it is the way they are taught on the island. That it does not matter how they make money, as long as they ARE making money.

anardo is dominican the other one was puerto rican, its ignorant to sterio type a whole race. C'mon you know better, and i Know Nando very well he is a good kidd, its not fair to judge a person based on a mistake. His main problem was his life style, like many kidds today, he admired the thug life and liked to drink in the weakends, and he is easy influenced by anybody. if you add a crazy puerto rican with a bat to the equation, then you have an assult with a deadly weopon. Its like a time bomb. This is a big problem. There are many more Nandos walking around today all over newyork, black , white , dominican ect.
