Seville Diner to become all-you-can-eat sushi place

From Douglaston Patch:

The site of a former Douglaston diner is being renovated and transformed into an Asian buffet and sushi restaurant, Community Board 11's district manager said.

The P&B's Seville diner site, located at 231-10 Northern Blvd. in Douglaston, opened in the mid-1970s and was a popular neighborhood eatery until it closed a few years ago.

The city's Board of Standards and Appeals granted a variance to Ching Kuo Chiang, the property's owner, in August that allowed him to renovate the diner's building.

A new buffet and sushi restaurant known as Mizumi is being constructed at the site, but the opening date is yet to be announced, Community Board 11 District Manager Susan Seinfeld said.

There was a sushi place right up the street that went out of business, then became a garden center that went out of business. Why do we need another sushi place? To make sure the yellow tide keeps spreading?

Yup. They vote the right way and the give campaign donations the right way and that is all that you need to know, or care about.

For further details ask your Democratic Machine district leader or elected official.

Next question.

F-ing asians need to be stopped, but how? How do we repel this invasion? They will do this to the Scobee next.

Its hard to do. They bring their own diseases, keep their money within their own community, and do little interaction with outsiders.

They protect themselves very well.

OH, BOO HOO HOO

You conservative dogmatics all want your fucking "free" market...well here it is in all it's glory.

Face it, N.E. Queens is turning Asian just as the mid section is becoming Latino.

The "market" dictates that businesses will reflect their clientele's tastes.

Run fer da hills white boy!

You probably ate raw dog or cat already. I guess you don't have problems with the Greeks running Astoria or the Irish with their bars one every block in parts of Queens?

Get it?

All these comments are so sad. If you don't like the asians moving in then move away. Don't allow it to turn you into a bitter sour grape. ha!

That's easy for you to say. You have a roof over your head and 3 squares a day. By the way, what's it like living in an insane asylum?

"HAH! I would BET money that the imbecile that said the above statement is REEAAALLY white himself HOPING to stir the pot."

This is truly the Dense Pack revived here.

My point was not to "stir" anything but rather to point out the facts here and inject a little humor in all this rancor and hand-wringing.

There are constant remarks from con-servative dogmatics who feel that "the market" should always dominate. Well, here it is at it's full-on ugly self.

A long time neighborhood establishment put out of business because some parasite thinks it can make more money from someone else.

At the other end we have the reality of a vastly changing borough. And, faced with this, some of the commenters automatically blame it on the newcomers.

The fact is that a landlord destroyed a going business..not your new neighbors.

The Landlord didn't destroy a business, the business didn't have strong enough economics to renew a new 30 year lease. Did you think that they were going to be offered a lease rent based on 30 years ago?

The business owners knew that as they approached the lease end and allowed it to expire and I guess retire. The new owners are probably getting a good fit in terms of the facility and location. There business model take in account for the market lease rent and probably can do well in this area and take away similar business from competitors up the road.

What the hell are you blabbering about.

Neither of us know the specifics here, but the results are obvious...a long established done-in by a landlord who because there are no restrictions to his greed can demand whatever it wants.

The inevitable result of this is a constantly rising cost of living as the business scrambles to sate the greed of some parasite.

No one wins except the parasite.

Face it peopos. Theres just different people coming down here and they see things in different ways and soon everything we've known will just be swept away. Its a losing battle for anyone left behind who knew life here as it was but its good for the new comers that are living the dream with there own kind everywhere they look. This has already happened to the rest of the outer boros and it was a matter of time before it would happen in Northeast Queens. All i ask for is that they respect and preserve the way of life that made this part of Queens nice

If you white mofos can't afford to move on up and outta Queens, then that's jes becaw you too dumb. You should ha pay mo attention in schoo. Ya dig? Now shaddup!!

Another Greek diner that thought it was the "Four Seasons"!

Crapola food at high prices.

What is it with Greek diner owners anyway...sling mediocre fare and lazily expect to just sit on their fat asses and count the money at the end of the day?

For the price of a....let's say seafood dinner....you can get far better quality in a real restaurant with far better food at the same price and friendlier service than you get from an average sour faced Greek diner waiter!

Diners were a place where you could sit with a cup of coffee and a friend for HOURS and no one would care as long as the place wasn't crowded. You could stay out all night and eat at a diner somewhere along Northern before going home. You met your friends for breakfast at 1:00 in the afternoon or shared a plate of french fries after a movie.

The same people ate there all the time - some everyday. It wasn't expensive - you knew the waitstaff all by their first names and were friendly with the regulars at the counter.

All diners back when had a PARKING LOT, and you always were able to find a spot.

You talked loud in a diner because you couldn't be heard otherwise over the noise of dishes clanging, waitstaff and cooks fighting in the kitchen or kids screaming. When you were in junior high you went on your first date to a movie and a diner. You put tables together without dirty looks from the waitstaff to accomodate all your family and friends.

The American diner was an ICON of middle class living - Scobee's is like the last of the Mohigan's.

meant to say the "Seville and Scobee's" were the last of the Mohicans.
